Northern Ireland gained promotion from League C to League B in 2025 after topping Group 3 with 11 points from six matches, marking their return to this level of the competition for the first time in six years.
Despite spending time in the lower tiers of the Nations League, Michael O'Neill's men made a strong return to League B, beginning their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Monday's opponents courtesy of Shea Charles' 99th-minute winner.
That victory in the Georgian capital was followed by a goalless draw at Windsor Park, where Northern Ireland restricted Hungary to just one shot on target but struggled to create enough high-quality chances of their own.
Friday's clash saw Northern Ireland take to the road for the second time in seven days, travelling to Slovakia to face Ukraine, who were top of the group at the time.

As for the visiting side, they will face the Green and White Army for the second time during the extended international break, but with a new manager in the dugout after Northern Ireland's victory led to the departure of Willy Sagnol following more than five years at the helm.
Ramaz Svanadze has since been promoted from his Under-21 managerial role to take charge of the senior team, with his tenure beginning with a goalless draw against Ukraine in a match where Georgia recorded twice as many shots on goal as their opponents.
