Authenticity (3/5): Arsenal linked with Chelsea flop
Arsenal are set to prioritise strengthening their attacking options for Mikel Arteta and have set their sights on Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku.
The story comes from Teamtalk, who suggest that Chelsea are open to selling the struggling French forward.
Value (4/5): Bargain deal
The 27-year-old joined Chelsea for £52million in 2023 after scoring 70 goals in 172 games from RB Leipzig. However, he has not managed to have the same level of impact in London and this could lead to him leaving Chelsea for as little as £40million. The figure is seen as a bargain by his suitors.
Suitability (3.5/5): Brilliant link-up ability
The Frenchman, who is capable of playing on the left flank as well as through the middle, thrives in tight spaces, owing to his dribbling ability and tendency to play quick short passes with his teammates to disrupt the opposition's backline. He could be a brilliant option for Arteta against tight defensive units.
Upgrade? (4/5): Attacking depth
Nkunku is unlikely to start over the likes of Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka but his versatility, experience, and technical prowess could make him an incredible asset to have on the bench for late cameos. Further, Arsenal's injury struggles impacted their title pursuit and to avoid another underwhelming league campaign, they need more quality players like Nkunku in their squad.
Logic (4/5): Best to leave
Enzo Maresca doesn't appear to be Nkunku's biggest fan and things are unlikely to change next season as Chelsea are in the market for a new left-winger. As such, it is best for the Frenchman to find a new club. If he doesn't want to leave London, Arsenal might be the perfect destination.
Whisper+ verdict: 18.5/25
Chelsea's asking price has made Nkunku a pretty attractive option for Arsenal. One to keep an eye on!
