Newcastle vs Leeds United prediction: Tight encounter on the cards

Key Stats

Newcastle have opened the scoring in nine home matches this season.

Newcastle are unbeaten in their last eight Wednesday-held home Premier League matches.

Leeds have conceded 33 goals this season, with 22 coming after half-time.

Leeds are looking to go on a four-match unbeaten run away from home in the Premier League for the first time since 2001.

Correct score prediction: Newcastle 2-1 Leeds United

What a clash we have got on our hands! Newcastle are finally beginning to find some momentum, with the Magpies looking to bag their third straight Premier League victory.

Eddie Howe’s men have managed to climb into the top half of the table, and they find themselves just five points adrift of the top four.

Leeds, on the other hand, extended their unbeaten run in the competition to seven games after holding Manchester United to a 1-1 draw last Sunday.

Daniel Farke has taken his side eight points clear of the relegation zone, though there is still a lot of work to do for the Whites before they can secure their top flight spot for next season.

Newcastle preview: Magpies hunting for hat-trick of victories

Fresh from their 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace, Newcastle will be looking to continue building momentum. The Magpies are hunting a third straight league victory, and back-to-back clean sheets for the first time since early October.

Newcastle are without William Osula, Dan Burn and Emil Krafth through injury. Anthony Elanga, Jacob Murphy and Jamaal Lascelles are doubts.

Nick Woltemade could make his return, and that would come as a big boost for Newcastle considering the German scored seven Premier League goals this season.

Predicted lineup: Pope (GK), Miley, Thiaw, Schar, Hall, Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton, Murphy, Woltemade & Gordon

Last five matches

Newcastle United 2-0 Crystal Palace (Premier League)

Burnley 1-3 Newcastle United (Premier League)

Manchester United 1-0 Newcastle United (Premier League)

Newcastle United 2-2 Chelsea (Premier League)

Newcastle United 2-1 Fulham (EFL Cup)

Leeds United preview: Whites fighting for Premier League safety

Leeds boss Farke was under growing pressure when his side fell to a fourth straight defeat in late November. Since then, the German has overseen a seven-match unbeaten run – a streak which consists of five draws.

The West Yorkshire outfit have gone eight points above the relegation zone, and they will be looking to build that gap this Wednesday night.

When it comes to injuries, Daniel James and Joe Rodon are both out of action, while Jayden Bogle is a doubt. Captain Ethan Ampadu is set to return from a suspension, which should give the Whites a big boost.

Predicted lineup: Perri (GK), Bijol, Bornauw, Struijk, Justin, Stach, Aaronson, Ampadu, Gudmundsson, Calvert-Lewin & Okafor

Last five matches

Leeds United 1-1 Manchester United (Premier League)

Liverpool 0-0 Leeds United (Premier League)

Sunderland 1-1 Leeds United (Premier League)

Leeds United 4-1 Crystal Palace (Premier League)

Brentford 1-1 Leeds United (Premier League)

Player to watch: Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is absolutely flying in recent weeks, scoring seven goals across his last eight matches. The striker almost added another goal to his tally when he rattled the post against Man United last time out.

The 28-year-old has a great individual record against Newcastle, scoring six times against the Magpies during his Premier League career. He has only managed to score more times against one other club – Crystal Palace.
