Tyler Morton is a player being closely watched by Premier League clubs. One English side has been named as favourites to sign him in 2027.
Tyler Morton has proved a shrewd piece of business by Lyon in the transfer market. Having barely played at Liverpool, the French club invested £8.5m (€10m) in the summer of 2025 to sign the English midfielder, who immediately established himself as a starter.
He is coming off a season in which he made 43 appearances and has played in all 10 of Lyon's matches this term. He is an undroppable part of Paulo Fonseca's system in a defensive midfield role. The 23-year-old, whose market value has just reached £25.5m (€30m), is in demand, notably in England.

At the end of September, Ekrem Konur reported that seven Premier League clubs were knocking on the door for Tyler Morton: Sunderland, Newcastle United, Everton, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Liverpool. Football Insider has now provided an update on the situation and named two favourites: Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.
Keith Wyness, the former Everton chief executive, told Football Insider: ‘At the moment, as I see it, I would say Nottingham Forest are favourites for January, but I think Newcastle will probably become favourites once they have reshaped their midfield this summer. And I think that is the direction things are heading in.‘
He believes that Newcastle United, who lost their two key midfielders, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, this summer, will continue to rebuild their midfield in the next summer transfer window. The English side would like to have Tyler Morton. The Lyon player has several admirers behind the scenes at St James' Park. The Magpies have already sent scouts to France to watch him.
Newcastle United, the ideal next step for Tyler Morton?
‘He is a highly sought-after young talent, but as usual it is all about game time, and he wants to see his path take shape. I think Newcastle could offer him that. He would be very well received there, at St James' Park,‘ Wyness added. It would, in any case, be an interesting new challenge for Morton, as Newcastle United are a rich and ambitious Premier League club.
The English side could offer the 23-year-old a lucrative contract, with a project aimed at challenging near the top of the table and playing in European competition every year. For its part, Lyon could pull off another huge sale to the English club, following that of Bruno Guimaraes for £42.6m (€50.1m) in January 2022.
