Newcastle are still on the lookout for a striker. Alexander Isak reportedly remains at the club, but there is no guarantee he will give his all, and he could force a move by refusing to play. The Magpies are therefore considering Norwegian forward Jørgen Strand Larsen. However, Wolverhampton have already rejected Newcastle’s first generous offer.

A difficult transfer window for Newcastle

Newcastle are not experiencing a happy transfer window. So many rejections from top players, whom the Magpies saw as ideal signings, is unusual. In defence, Leoni and Huijsen declined, but particularly in attack, many stars chose other destinations. Mbeumo, Delap, Pedro, Šeško, Ekitiké and others are now set to be Newcastle’s rivals.

Moreover, Alexander Isak’s potential departure was also an issue. He did not take part in pre-season and wanted a move to Liverpool, which Newcastle refused. He is reportedly expected to join the squad eventually. However, there is no certainty that Isak, currently unpopular with fans, will not refuse to play. Will he regain form, or will he struggle under the pressure of the situation?

Newcastle needs an alternative to Isak

Newcastle reportedly did not allow Isak to leave because they have no replacement – and indeed, they do not. Many fans believe Newcastle’s treatment of Isak has not helped the club’s reputation among players and agents. Isak has stated that Newcastle did not fulfil their promise. The club may not yet appreciate that it will take years for Newcastle to become a final destination comparable to Real Madrid or Liverpool.

Most players therefore arrive with the understanding that Newcastle is a stepping stone. Isak, who agreed with the club on a three-season stay and the option to leave, falls into this category. Concerns about how Isak will perform if he stays are forcing Newcastle to continue seeking an alternative. Yoane Wissa could be that option, but he remains at Brentford for now.

Another rejection for Newcastle

Meanwhile, a £50 million offer was made to Wolverhampton for Norwegian Jørgen Strand Larsen, who caught Newcastle’s eye. Strand Larsen joined Wolves from Celta Vigo on loan with an option of €27 million, which the club exercised this summer. Fourteen goals from the Norwegian striker helped keep Wolves in the Premier League last season.

Although Wolves are also pursuing a new forward in the form of Uche from Getafe, they are unwilling to let Strand Larsen go cheaply. Newcastle’s initial offer was rejected, meaning the Magpies will have to increase their bid. Fans agree that selling a key attacking player would be the final nail in the coffin and could condemn the club to relegation.
