New York City vs Toronto predictions: Hosts to reign supreme
Key stats
- New York City have won five consecutive clashes between these teams.
- At least three goals were scored in four of New York City's last five games.
- Three of Toronto's last five matches featured fewer than three cards.
Correct score prediction: New York City 2-1 Toronto
Although Toronto have been one of the worst travellers in the MLS over the course of the season, they have started to find their stride, winning back-to-back away games after going winless in their first five.
However, the Canadian side will contend with one of the best home teams in the MLS, as New York City have won seven of 10 league games at Yankee Stadium this season.
Keeping in mind that New York City emerged victorious the last five times these teams met, we are confident that the hosts will extend that streak on Friday.

It is also important to note that four of the last five meetings between these teams went above the 2.5-goal threshold. New York City preview: Looking to improve their fortunes
New York City are coming off a 1-0 at Montreal and have won only one of their last four games.
However, they are still within the Eastern Conference's playoff places and will look to return to winning ways.
Left-back Birk Risa sustained an injury in the defeat to Montreal and now faces a race to be fit for this clash, while long-term absentee forward Malachi Jones (broken leg) continues his healing process.
The team's joint-top-scorer, Alonso Martinez, with eight goals, is expected to be back for this game following Costa Rica’s elimination from the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Predicted lineup: Romero (GK), Tanasijevic, Martins, Haak, O’Toole, Perea, Moralez, Ojeda, Fernandez, Wolf & Bakrar.

Toronto preview: Eyeing back-to-back wins for the first time this season
Goals from Alonso Coello, Tyrese Spicer, and an own goal by Ian Smith handed Toronto a 3-0 home victory over Portland Timbers in their last outing. That win ended a four-game winless run, which included three defeats.
With only four wins after 19 MLS games, Toronto are not particularly having a great season. It will take a run of fine form to restore their playoff hopes.
On the treatment table, Deandre Kerr and Kobe Franklin remain sidelined with ankle injuries, while Nickseon Gomis is out for the season following a successful achilles tendon repair surgery.
Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi have both been released from Toronto FC after two difficult years at the club.
Predicted lineup: Johnson (GK), Thompson, Long, Rosted, Petretta, Coello, Corbeanu, Etienne, Kerr, Spicer & Brynhildsen.

Player to watch: Alonso Martinez

Alonso Martinez scored the only goal when these teams clashed in the reverse fixture in April. The 26-year-old is coming off an impressive CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign in which he had three goal contributions in four appearances for Costa Rica.
Martinez has been in sensational form, scoring five goals and providing four assists in his last nine appearances for club and country. It will be interesting to see how he performs if he gets some playing time.
