BTTS - Yes

Both teams have scored in four of their last five previous meetings.

Netherlands and Sweden square off at NRG Stadium in Houston on Saturday in a match that could have a major bearing on the outcome of Group F at the 2026 World Cup.

The Swedes made the perfect start by thrashing Tunisia 5-1 in their opening fixture, while the Dutch were left frustrated after surrendering a lead twice in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Japan.

With Sweden knowing another victory would all but secure their place in the knockout rounds and the Netherlands under pressure to avoid another slip-up, there is plenty riding on this intriguing encounter.

The Netherlands will feel they let a golden opportunity slip through their fingers against Japan. Ronald Koeman's side led twice but lacked the defensive authority to see the game out, leaving them with just a point from a fixture many expected them to win.

That result has increased the importance of this contest. Another draw would leave qualification hanging in the balance heading into the final group game against Tunisia, while defeat would put the Oranje in serious danger of an early exit.

There is no shortage of talent within Koeman's ranks, but defensively, improvement is required. The Dutch have now gone five consecutive matches without keeping a clean sheet, a worrying trend ahead of a meeting with one of the most potent attacks in the competition.

The biggest selection dilemma concerns Memphis Depay. The Netherlands' all-time leading scorer is still working his way back to full fitness and may once again have to settle for a place on the bench despite scoring in seven of his last 10 appearances for club and country.

Sweden could hardly have asked for a better start to the tournament. Their 5-1 demolition of Tunisia sent a message to the rest of the field and underlined why many regard them as one of the dark horses capable of making a deep run.

Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak both found the scoresheet in that victory, but Yasin Ayari arguably stole the headlines with a brilliant two-goal display from midfield.

History favours the Netherlands, who have won 12 of the previous 25 meetings between the nations, but recent form suggests this could be far closer than reputation alone would indicate.

Graham Potter is unlikely to see any reason for major changes after such a commanding performance, which means Lucas Bergvall and Anthony Elanga are expected to remain among the substitutes.

Whispers predicts: Netherlands 2-1 Sweden

Goals are guaranteed from this game, as Netherlands need to get a win after their draw against Japan.

Over 2.5 goals at 10/11 (1.91) looks a strong play given Sweden have seen over 2.5 goals land in each of their last five matches, while the Netherlands have failed to keep a clean sheet in five consecutive games.

That defensive vulnerability also strengthens the case for BTTS – Yes at 17/20 (1.85). Sweden have scored in all of their last seven matches, while the Dutch have found the net regularly despite their recent struggles at the back.

With both sides carrying attacking threat and neither looking particularly secure defensively, goals at both ends feels highly plausible.

For those seeking a bigger price, Netherlands to win and BTTS – Yes at 13/5 (3.6) is an appealing option.

Ronald Koeman's side remain favourites at 8/11 (1.73) and possess greater individual quality in the final third, but Sweden have equally enough quality going forward to suggest they can contribute to the scoring even in defeat.

Netherlands have seen less than 11 corners in six of their last seven matches, and Under 10.5 corners at 1/2 (1.5) looks an appealing bet.

Memphis Depay has found the net in seven of his last 10 appearances, and the Dutch attacker is priced at 7/4 (2.75) to score anytime during the game.
