After a bright start to the season, which started in July, things have gone somewhat pear-shaped for Motherwell and their new manager Alfred Johansson since September.

The Steelmen have won just one of their last eight matches in all competitions, and although two of the matches in that run were against last season's Europa League runners-up, Freiburg, there is little justification for their performances in the rest.

Before the international break, Motherwell slumped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Dundee FC, a result which has left them in eighth position, just two points above the relegation zone.

Motherwell vs Celtic – Whispers Insight

Celtic have scored six goals across their last two matches against Motherwell.

While there is no imminent threat to Johansson's position as the club's manager, a standout performance against one of the country's big two would help his reputation with supporters.

The managerial situation at Celtic Park is more precarious after Martin O'Neill told reporters he would consider his future over the international break after losing back-to-back matches against Rangers.

While O'Neill has decided to stay on, a bad result on Sunday could see the decision taken away from him, with Celtic at risk of losing top spot in the Scottish Premiership to Rangers this weekend.

Motherwell vs Celtic – Whispers Insight

Motherwell have won just one of their last 39 matches against Celtic.

After trying a different system against Rangers last time out, O'Neill is expected to go back to his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation on Sunday, as the Bhoys look to arrest their slide.

Regardless of which formation he selects, O'Neill will be without Alistair Johnston, Callum Osmand and Jota due to injury, and potentially Benjamin Nygren, too.
