Montenegro will take on Cyprus on Friday, 25 September, as the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League gets underway.
Both teams are competing in Group C2 alongside Armenia and Latvia, with Montenegro the favourites to secure promotion to League B next summer.

Montenegro are back in League C of the Nations League following relegation from League B two years ago courtesy of a fourth-placed finish in a group containing Wales, Turkey and Iceland.
On paper, Montenegro were not expected to finish bottom of the pile, but that is the reality they face, and the expectation now is that they bounce back with immediate promotion.
Since their Nations League disappointment, Mirko Vucinic has taken over as manager, and so far, he has a 50% win rate from eight matches, which isn't a bad return for a Montenegro manager.
The dream is to lead Montenegro into Euro 2028, and a strong Nations League campaign could help, given that there are now 24 spaces available at European Championships.
As for Cyprus, they narrowly survived relegation from League C last time around, winning just two of their six Nations League matches.
Thankfully for them, Lithuania were awful, losing all six of their matches, which means the Cypriots get another crack at League C, although their chances of promotion are slim.
Akis Mantzios, who has now been the nation's manager for 18 months, has done a decent job at making Cyprus a tough side to beat. Across their last four competitive matches, Cyprus have lost just once.
Like Montenegro, Cyprus have never qualified for an international tournament, and the Nations League can provide a backdoor entrance.
