Monaco’s summer transfer business is not yet complete, with the Ligue 1 side now turning their attention to an England international who is not currently in peak form.
Often linked with European clubs, including Barcelona and Liverpool, Brazilian right-back Vanderson has not (yet) left the Principality side. The 24-year-old is under contract with last season’s Ligue 1 third-placed side until June 2028, and a departure is not necessarily on the agenda, with his market value high at around £16.8m (€20m), according to Transfermarkt.
However, according to Florian Plettenberg, Monaco are interested in Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier this August. The journalist reports that Newcastle and head coach Eddie Howe are reluctant to part with the 34-year-old England international. His contract, which expires in June 2026, could play a role in the final decision.
AS Monaco eye Kieran Trippier

Trippier joined the Magpies in 2022 and enjoyed an outstanding 2023-24 campaign – 39 appearances, one goal and 11 assists – before being less dominant last season, partly due to injuries, registering 32 appearances and four assists. Capped 54 times by England, the defender is now valued at just £3.4m by Transfermarkt.
If Trippier were to arrive at Monaco, what would his role be? Most likely that of a back-up to Vanderson, unless the former Atletico Madrid man were deployed on the right of a back three – although that is not Monaco’s current approach, with their last two friendlies seeing them play a back four. And if Vanderson were to depart?
