Mjallby booked their place in the third qualifying round after producing a commanding first-leg display against Lincoln Red Imps, claiming a 3-0 victory at Strandvallen before completing the job with a goalless draw in Gibraltar.
That outcome represented an encouraging beginning to the Swedish club’s maiden Champions League campaign after they secured their first-ever Allsvenskan title last season under Anders Torstensson.
However, their domestic title defence under Karl Marius Aksum – who succeeded Torstensson – has been far more difficult, with Mjallby sitting 11th in the Allsvenskan table and trailing current leaders Sirius by 21 points.
Jacob Bergstrom, who found the net in the previous round at Strandvallen, is expected to lead the attack in Aksum’s 3-4-3 system, while Aki Samuelsen should operate on the flanks after scoring twice in the same meeting against the Gibraltar-based side.
Slovan Bratislava also advanced to this stage through an impressive opening-leg display, defeating Iberia 1999 2-0 away from home in Georgia before earning a 1-1 draw in the return fixture to progress 3-1 on aggregate.
The Slovak champions are targeting another Champions League league phase appearance after reaching the competition proper in the 2024-25 season, when they finished 35th in the 36-team standings.
