Oxford United or draw

Oxford United have won their last two Championship matches.

Millwall are set to take on Oxford United in the Championship on Wednesday, 1 January as the new year kicks off with a full round of Championship fixtures.

The hosts come into the match on the back of 0-0 draw against Coventry as their slide down the table continues.

Oxford United, meanwhile, have found some form again in recent times and will look to make it three wins in three on New Year's Day.

As part of our latest round of Championship betting tips, here is our Millwall vs Oxford United prediction.

Millwall vs Oxford United prediction: The visitors to avoid defeat

Key stats

  • Millwall have won just one of their last nine matches in all competitions.
  • Oxford United have taken six points from their last two matches.
  • Only one of Millwall's last 16 games has produced more than two goals.

Correct score prediction: Millwall 1-1 Oxford United

This is a scoreline that has frequently cropped up throughout Millwall's season so far with the Lions drawing three consecutive matches 1-1 just last month. Oxford's recent form means that they will head to the Den in high spirits and will have enough to cause Millwall plenty of problems.

Pre-game odds and win probability: The hosts are the favourites

  • HOME: 7/10 (1.70) – 58.8%
  • DRAW: 13/5 (3.60) – 27.8%
  • AWAY: 17/4 (5.25) – 19%

*odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change

The Millwall vs Oxford United odds suggest that the hosts should come away with the three points on Wednesday but that is at odds with their recent form. Ladbrokes have given Millwall a 58.8% chance of winning the match on New Year's Day while Oxford United have been given just a 19% chance of coming out on top.

Millwall preview: Too soon for a new manager bounce?

Alex Neil has been confirmed as the new Millwall manager and is expected to be in the dugout on New Year's Day but it's unlikely that the former Preston boss will have enough time on the training pitch prior to kick-off to effect any change. A new voice in the changing room could be just what the doctor ordered, though, to give the Lions the best start to the new year.

Predicted lineup: Bornhoft-Jensen (GK), Hutchinson, Wallace, Tanganga, Harding, Mitchell, Leonard, Saville, Bradshaw, Emakhu, Ivanovic

Oxford United preview: Enjoying a bounce of their own

If Neil is looking for advice on how to get off to the best possible start as a manager then he should give Oxford boss, Gary Rowett, a call. Rowett took over at the Kassam Stadium on 20 December and has won his first two matches in charge. This will be his first away match as Oxford manager which will provide him with a new challenge.

Predicted lineup: Cumming (GK), Long, Thorniley, Moore, Leigh, Brannagan, Brown, Goodrham, Harris, Placheta, Scarlett
