Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (3/5): Not a eyebrows raising story
Arsenal want to sign Bryan Mbeumo as Mikel Arteta is facing a serious injury crisis in attack. However, Brentford will not consider selling their star forward for anything less than £60 million before the close of the winter transfer window.
The story comes from GIVEMESPORT. They do report a specific figure but the suggestion Brentford aren't too keen on letting their main man leave mid-season easily isn't a new update.
Value (3.5/5): Mbeumo is worth the hype
The 25-year-old has been one of the best attackers in the Premier League over the last 18 months or so. This season alone, he has 13 goals and three assists to his name in England's top flight. As such, the fact Bees are even open to listening to offers for their talisman should be celebrated by his suitors. The £60 million price tag seems fair for his profile and numbers!
Suitability (4/5): Versatile forward
The Cameroon international has played on the flanks, through the middle, and even in the middle of the park under Thomas Frank. Arteta likes to experiment with his lineup and would admire Mbeumo's versatility, as it would allow him to be more flexible, tactically. His work ethic out of possession is also top-notch.
Upgrade? (4/5): Boost for injury-laden attack
With both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus sidelined through injuries, the arrival of Mbeumo in January would come as a huge boost to Arteta. The Brentford man could fill Jesus's void as a striker and even fill in for Saka on the right wing. Not only could he cover for them, but he might do better than both under the right circumstances.
Logic (3.5/5): Gunners are desperate
If Arsenal want to catch Liverpool, they will have to act decisively in the final weeks of the winter window to strengthen Arteta's frontline. In the current market, not many forwards are better than Mbeumo for the Gunners.
As far as the player is concerned, an opportunity to challenge for the league title could tempt him to leave Brentford mid-season.
Whisper+ verdict: 18/25
Some may consider the reported asking price to be a bit high, but Arsenal's title aspirations could compel them to pull the trigger. This rumour looks to have potential!
