With just over a month to go until the beginning of the new Premier League season, Michael Carrick will be keen to take a look at some of the fringe players from last season who have not been involved at the World Cup this summer.

Some of the Red Devils' biggest names are yet to report for pre-season due to their involvement in North America, including Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha, and Amad Diallo, which could open up some space for younger players to show Carrick what they are capable of.

Now that Carrick is the permanent manager, he will be desperate to start the new season strongly, and a good pre-season can be key towards putting United in the best shape possible to do that, but given that this is the first game back, regaining match sharpness is more important than the result.

Despite that, we could see a couple of new signings make their United debuts on Saturday. Andrey Santos and Karl Darlow are both in the squad to face Wrexham, and both should get some minutes on the pitch.

More established stars, such as Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire, should also feature.

As for Wrexham, this is their second pre-season match following a draw with Wisla Krakow last weekend. As such, the Dragons should be in better shape than their opponents this weekend.

Phil Parkinson's side are determined to secure promotion to the Premier League next season, so seeing how they shape up against the team that finished third in the top division last season will be a good test.

Despite their wealth, Wrexham are yet to dip into the transfer market this summer, so it will be more of the same in terms of team selection on Saturday, although plenty of rotation is expected as players return to fitness.

Matty James and Ollie Rathbone, Old Trafford academy graduates, will be keen to show what they can do against their former club.

Whispers predicts: Man Utd 3-2 Wrexham

Man Utd have more quality in their squad, but with several big names still away from the camp, Wrexham have an opportunity to compete properly on Saturday night.

Goals are usually free-flowing in pre-season, and four were scored when these two sides last met in a friendly three years ago. It's worth noting that Wrexham have only got better since then, too.

Mbeumo hit double digits for Man Utd last season and will be their most senior forward available on Saturday.
