Free of any contract since his departure from CF Monterrey, Sergio Ramos is looking for a new challenge and would reportedly be targeting a return to Europe during the winter transfer window. Manchester United would like to try the gamble.

Having arrived in February 2025 at Monterrey, Sergio Ramos is already leaving Mexico, where he will have played 30 encounters, scoring seven goals. But at nearly 40 years old, the centre-back does not intend to hang up his boots. He believes he still has the level to play within a competitive team and even in a high-level league. The Spanish press assure that his objective is to participate in the 2026 World Cup.

According to information from Cadena SER, Manchester United have made him a contract offer. The English club want to strengthen in the defensive sector and the Sergio Ramos gamble is appealing to the English directors. The proposal almost certainly extends until the end of the season and is a low-cost proposal as the centre-back will probably not demand too high a salary.

Manchester United want to try the Sergio Ramos gamble

After a very poor start to the season, Ruben Amorim, benefiting from his board's confidence, has managed to stabilise Manchester United, who currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League, just two points from Crystal Palace in fourth. The Red Devils are completely in the race for Champions League qualification and Sergio Ramos' experience could be an additional asset to achieve this goal.

For his part, Sergio Ramos is open to a new challenge, having already known Spain well between Sevilla and Real Madrid and also Ligue 1 with two seasons spent at PSG. A return to the Merengues, looking for a centre-back, has also been mentioned but Florentino Perez does not seem convinced. The world champion could be tempted by the Theatre of Dreams, in order to fulfil his own and return to La Roja a few months before the World Cup in America.
