Manchester United do not necessarily know who their coach will be for the 2026-27 season, but the sporting directorate are working on the summer 2026 transfer window, looking at FC Barcelona and Inter Milan.
Michael Carrick is on the touchline for the fourth-placed Premier League side, but for how long? The Englishman is Ruben Amorim's replacement, but looks more like an interim than an established number one.
Despite this, Manchester United are working on their summer 2026 transfer window, with their midfield shortlist reduced to 5 names: Sandro Tonali (Newcastle), Angelo Stiller (Stuttgart), Carlos Baleba (Brighton), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace) and Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest).
Manchester United looking at Barcelona

Midfield is not the only area Manchester United are looking at for next season, however. According to Team Talk, the Red Devils want to recruit at left-back. Luke Shaw, out of contract in June 2027, could leave as early as this summer; Tyrell Malacia does not feature in the English club's plans – 3 appearances this season – while Patrick Dorgu is a potential starter.
The British outlet reports that the Red Devils are following Alejandro Balde's situation (22) with interest. The club could even send an offer of £33.9m (€40m) next summer, despite the Spaniard being a starter in Hansi Flick's side – 32 matches this season – and Transfermarkt valuing him at £50.8m (€60m). An offer not sufficient to convince FC Barcelona?

Team Talk report that Manchester United could then turn to Federico Dimarco. Like Alejandro Balde, the Italian is a starter at Inter – 32 matches, six goals, 14 assists – but his contractual situation could bring him closer to an exit this summer: his contract expires in June 2027.
However, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A leaders are in discussions with their 28-year-old left-back over an extension. If an agreement is reached soon, the Red Devils should not be in a position to convince Inter, or the player, to move this summer. Unless they make a very significant offer, given Transfermarkt values the international at £42.4m (€50m)?
