Manchester City are expected to put AEK Athens to the sword on Tuesday night, with the Citizens flying under Enzo Maresca.

While their season and future could still come crashing down due to off-field issues, the players are still producing the goods on the pitch, with all of their summer recruits starting the season strongly.

Provided they are allowed to remain in the competition, City are legitimate contenders to win the Champions League this season, but to make life easier for themselves, they will be keen to secure a top-eight finish. To do that, winning matches against pot four teams is non-negotiable.

Maresca rotated his team for the win over Ipswich at the weekend, and he is expected to shuffle the pack once again here. Erling Haaland could be rested, while Antoine Semenyo is out for eight weeks with a knee injury.

As for AEK Athens, the task at hand could not be any more daunting, even if they have had a full week off to prepare for the fixture.

The Greek side tasted defeat for the first time this season last week, losing 3-1 to Shakhtar Donetsk at Stamford Bridge. The defeat wasn't all that damaging to their Champions League qualification hopes as they won their opening league phase fixture against LASK.

Last season, AEK enjoyed a run to the quarter-finals of the Conference League, which has likely boosted their confidence in Europe. However, nothing in that competition can prepare them for the level they will face on Tuesday night.

AEK's standout player is former Real Madrid man Luka Jovic, who will look to remind the rest of Europe of what he is capable of on Tuesday.
