Manchester City transfer news: Enzo Maresca ‘wants to sign’ Chelsea winger

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea winger Pedro Neto this summer, with Enzo Maresca looking to raid his former club.

The Citizens have been active in the summer transfer window and have already signed four players, including the blockbuster addition of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.

Alongside Anderson, City have recruited Jeremy Monga and Mathys Detourbet from Leicester City and Troyes respectively, while goalkeeper Pierce Charles has arrived from Sheffield United.

Neto joined Chelsea from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2024 and has since made 103 appearances for the Blues, scoring 19 goals.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have no intention of allowing the winger to leave on the cheap, particularly given the soaring valuations of elite wide players across Europe.

The likes of Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola are both valued at more than £100m by their respective clubs, and Chelsea could demand a similar figure before entertaining offers for Neto.

Liverpool have also been linked with the Portugal international, although the Reds are reportedly focusing their efforts on signing Barcola instead.

Maresca knows Neto extremely well from their time together at Stamford Bridge, having regularly deployed him on the right flank, and could now attempt to lure the 26-year-old to the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City already possess a wealth of attacking talent, even if the likes of Jack Grealish and Savinho depart before the transfer window slams shut.

Maresca has an embarrassment of riches at his disposal, with Antoine Semenyo, Jeremy Doku, Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki, Omar Marmoush and Monga all capable of occupying positions across the frontline.

Neto, though, brings extensive Premier League experience and, at 26, should be entering the prime years of his career, while Chelsea's absence from European competition could potentially make the prospect of a move to the Etihad even more enticing.

The Blues need to trim their bloated squad and have rarely shied away from cashing in when substantial offers arrive, although selling Neto is unlikely to feature prominently in Xabi Alonso's plans.

For City, the question is therefore not whether Neto would improve their squad—his pace, directness and Premier League pedigree undoubtedly would—but whether another winger is worth a potential £100m-plus outlay when Maresca already has such a formidable array of attacking options.
