Match Preview, Bayern vs Man City Lineups, and Team News
Bayern
The reigning Bundesliga champions have thus far played only one preseason game and it was a 27-0 demolition against an amateur team Rottach-Egern. Bayern changed certain things in the management when the Board of Directors fired two former players who were running the club, Hasan Salihamidzic, and Oliver Kahn. Thomas Tuchel will have his first full season at Bayern and the team bought him some important pieces for the squad. South Korean Min-jae Kim arrived from Napoli while Konrad Laimer and Raphael Guerreiro signed as free agents. The biggest speculation surrounds Harry Kane, Bayern had two big offers already turned down by Tottenham. Manuel Neuer, Tarek Buchmann, and Raphael Guerreiro are expected to miss the game through injury.
Probable lineup: Sommer, de Ligt, Upamecano, Davies, Pavard, Kimmich, Musiala, Goretzka, Laimer, Muller, Tel.
Man City
There was a snag in the possible transfer of defender Josko Gvardiol from Leipzig. After some reports that the deal has been agreed, it seems those rumors were false. The Croatian defender has been Man City's top transfer target this summer and it will take some convincing of the Bundesliga team to make the deal happen. In the meantime, Pep Guardiola will have to settle with Mateo Kovacic as his only signing thus far, even though that surely won't be the last this summer, especially with the departure of Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez who is in discussions to move toward Saudi Arabia. Kevin De Bruyne is injured at the moment.
Probable lineup: Ortega, Ake, Dias, Gomez, Lewis, Kovacic, Silva, Palmer, Foden, Haaland, Alvarez.
Player to Watch: Erling Haaland
Arguably the best striker in the world at the moment, Erling Haaland managed to win everything worthwhile on the club scene with Manchester City. His first season in the Premier League was historic, the Norwegian attacker scored 36 league goals in 35 appearances adding eight assists in the process. In total, his goalscoring record for the treble-winning side is 52 goals in 53 matches.
Previously, Haaland was scoring goals for Red Bull Salzburg before moving to Borussia Dortmund where he broke all sorts of records. Even for the Norwegian national team, he can't be stopped after getting on the scoresheet 24 times in only 25 games.
Starting lineups
Starting lineups are usually released 60 minutes before kick-off.
