Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (2/5): El Nacional unclear on sources
Manchester City have shown plenty of ambition this window, having signed Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis already. Omar Marmoush is reportedly about to follow them, and now Pep Guardiola wants his club to set their sights on Barcelona winger Raphinha.
This major claim is from Spanish outlet El Nacional (via Standard), who are keeping their source information close to their chest.
Value (3/5): Barcelona open to selling on their terms
Raphinha has been one of Hansi Flick's most reliable attackers this season, but El Nacional suggest Barca could sell the 28-year-old for £85 million.
Having already agreed to spend big on Marmoush, it's tough to see City splurge such a figure on another attacker. However, the Brazilian's performance this season certainly commands a massive price tag.
Suitability (3.5/5): Can play on both flanks
While Erling Haaland has continued to score, he has received little help from his teammates on both flanks. The likes of Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku and Savinho have all been inconsistent. Raphinha's versatility and goalscoring prowess would certainly strengthen City's misfiring attack.
Upgrade? (3.5/5): First-choice left-winger
Marmoush is likely to be Guardiola's preferred option to play on the right wing. Meanwhile, Raphinha, who has largely played as a left-winger under Flick, could replicate the same role in Manchester. He has an incredible 20 goals and 11 assists across all competitions this term.
Logic (2.5/5): Player is happy in Barcelona
The ex-Leeds United star has insisted several times that he is enjoying playing under Flick at Barcelona. Considering his current form and previous comment, it is tough to see him push for an exit. However, if the cash-strapped Catalan giants show determination to sell him, he might be forced to explore other options.
Whisper+ verdict: 14.5/25
The idea of Raphinha joining City is certainly appealing to the club's supporters, but there's little logic to back this transfer rumour at this point.
