Barcelona are close to completing a second major signing of the summer, this time for nothing.

The Catalan club have already secured the signing of Anthony Gordon for more than £60m and are preparing a first offer for Julian Alvarez. But according to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, the Blaugrana are also on the verge of finalising a deal for Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva.

Bernardo Silva close to signing for Barcelona

Unlike Gordon and Alvarez, Barcelona will not need to break the bank to land the Portuguese. Silva is out of contract at Manchester City and will leave the Etihad Stadium as a free agent this summer. The former Monaco man had been looking for a new project.

According to Longari, Barcelona have seen off all rival suitors. Details of the proposed contract have not yet emerged. Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal, Benfica and Galatasaray had all been linked with the 31-year-old.

Barcelona beat off the competition

This represents something of a turnaround, with the Spanish press having reported just days ago that Barcelona had decided against pursuing the Portuguese. The situation appears to have shifted. Either way, the Catalan club are set to make a significant statement early in the window, with both Gordon and Silva potentially arriving before further business is done on the Alvarez front.

It is worth noting that Silva, who spent most of his career operating as a winger, has settled into a more central, attack-minded midfield role at Manchester City this season. Where Hansi Flick intends to deploy him remains to be seen, and his arrival could yet prompt departures in either midfield or attack at the Camp Nou this summer.
