Manchester City's greatest Premier League-era XI, as picked by Football Whispers: Ederson — Walker, Stones, Kompany, O'Reilly — Rodri — Silva, Toure — De Bruyne — Aguero, Haaland.

GK: Ederson

Ederson redefined the goalkeeper position in the Premier League, as he was as good as an outfield player in playing out from the back, and could ping passes to his strikers at will.

The Brazilian won six Premier League titles and the Champions League with Man City, and is undoubtedly their best goalkeeper of the era.

RB: Kyle Walker

Kyle Walker was a great servant to Man City having left Tottenham to try and win titles, and his blistering defence frightened his opponents.

The right-back did just that, winning no fewer than six Premier Leagues and also the Champions League.

RCB: John Stones

Playing alongside Walker for England too, John Stones built a strong partnership in the backline and was almost a cheat code in the way he could drift forward from defence and play incisive passes.

Stones left Man City this summer with six Premier League titles and a Champions League.

LCB: Vincent Kompany

One of five players in this XI to feature in our Man City’s best Premier League signings of all time article, Vincent Kompany was a true leader and captain of the club.

He was a no-nonsense centre-back who also popped up with big goals, and won 12 major trophies in his illustrious 11-year stay in Manchester.

LB: Nico O'Reilly

Left-back has perhaps been the position where Man City have not had a standout player in the Premier League era, so we have picked their current one Nico O'Reilly.

Another player who has redefined the position he plays in, O'Reilly regularly drifts into midfield and supports attacks, and has broken into the England team as a product of Man City's academy.

CDM: Rodri

The only Man City player to win the Ballon d'Or in the Premier League era is Rodri.

Leaving for Barcelona this summer, he was an incredible servant to the club, and is undoubtedly the best player in his position in the world.

RCM: Yaya Toure

His brother Kolo also played for Man City, but Yaya Toure was different gravy in terms of what he offered on the pitch.

He was an all-round midfielder who could defend and attack at an elite level, helping the club win three of their Premier League titles.

LCM: David Silva

Bernardo Silva is unlucky to miss out, but David Silva was phenomenal at Man City.

He had such grace on the ball and would pick the right pass with ease, winning four Premier League titles in his time in Manchester.

CAM: Kevin De Bruyne

Similar to Silva but with a lethal shot too, Kevin De Bruyne completes a ridiculous midfield.

Winning six Premier League titles and one Champions League, the Belgian is widely regarded as one of the best players to ever play in the top flight.

RS: Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero will be most remembered for his famous last-gasp winner on the final day of the 2011/12 Premier League season, where he clinched Man City their first title of the era ahead of city rivals Manchester United.

The striker remains the club's all-time top scorer on 260 goals, and won five Premier League titles in a decade of unprecedented success for the Cityzens.

Another current player completes the XI in Erling Haaland.

An absolute beast, the Norwegian has already broken the all-time record for most goals in a Premier League season with 36, and helped Man City win the coveted treble in his debut campaign in 2022/23.
