Lyon to win at Half Time

Lyon have only conceded one goal in the first half in their last nine Ligue 1 games

With Lyon chasing one of Ligue 1‘s European qualification spots, they cannot afford to lose against visitors Lorient on Sunday, when they face them at Groupama Stadium.

The hosts come into the weekend's clash in sixth place with 48 points, and their placement would be enough to secure Conference League football, whereas ninth-placed Lorient have 38 points with six matchweeks remaining.

Lyon may currently occupy the Conference League spot, but they are only one point ahead of seventh-placed Rennes and five points ahead of eighth-placed Strasbourg.

It should be noted that only four points separate them from third, so while any dropped points could be damaging, a win could propel them into the Champions League spots.

However, the hosts' form of late has been alarming considering they are winless in nine matches in all competitions, a period in which they lost five times.

Considering forward Malick Fofana is dealing with an ankle issue, perhaps Adam Karabec and Afonso Moreira will be stationed either side of striker Endrick.

Lorient's season has been an exceptional one given they are a newly promoted team, but they will still want to arrest their poor form given they have failed to win six of their past seven games.

The club were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Paris FC on April 4, and they are now winless in their four most recent away fixtures, though they did triumph in their prior four on the road.

Lorient managed to win 1-0 in the reverse fixture against Sunday's hosts in December 2025, but the two sides have both won one clash against each other over their last four meetings.

The visitors will be pinning their hopes on attacker Bamba Dieng, who scored against Paris FC, and another goal this weekend would be his ninth in Ligue 1 this season.

Whispers predicts: Lyon 1-1 Lorient

Neither team have been particularly consistent of late, so perhaps the safest prediction would be a draw, a bet that is valued at 3.8.

As for what could happen during the game, Lyon still boast an excellent defensive record before half time, and it makes some sense to back Lyon to Win at Half Time at 2.25.

However, the hosts have not been productive in the final third, so it may be worthwhile to go with Under 1.5 Goals for Lyon, which is priced at 1.91.

Lorient should have enough to take a point despite playing away from home, but their mixed scoring record could make Under 1.5 Goals for Lorient - priced at 1.25 - a sensible bet.
