Lille to win

Lille are unbeaten in seven of their last eight competitive matches, picking up five wins and two draws since the second week of April.

The action continues in round three of the French Ligue 1 as Lorient play host to Lille at the Stade du Moustoir on Saturday. Having both secured the first win of the season last time out, both sides will be looking to keep the ball rolling this weekend.

Football Whispers’ Lorient vs Lille prediction takes a look at the odds of both teams picking up maximum points this weekend.

Lorient vs Lille prediction: Plenty of goalmouth action

Key stats

  • There have been at least three goals scored in each of the last eight meetings between Lorient and Lille, with both sides scoring in six of their most recent seven encounters.
  • Lorient are on a run of six straight league victories on home turf, a run stretching back to a 1-0 defeat against Laval in the Ligue 2 back in February.
  • Lille have lost just one of their last eight competitive matches, picking up five wins and two draws since the second week of April.
  • Lorient have won four of their last five home games against Lille, including three victories from their most recent three meetings, while scoring eight goals and conceding three across the three matches.

Correct score prediction: Lorient 1-2 Lille

Buoyed by their emphatic victory over Stade Rennais, Lorient will head into the weekend in high spirits as they look to put together a strong early-season form.

However, Lille have enjoyed a solid start to the league campaign, claiming four points from the first six available, and we predict they will do just enough to secure maximum points at the Stade du Moustoir.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Lille favoured to edge out Lorient

  • HOME: 23/10 (5/2) – 30.3%
  • DRAW: 5/2 (3.50) – 28.6%
  • AWAY: 11/10 (2.10) – 47.6%

*Odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change

While both sides will be looking to secure successive victories for the first time this season, the bookmakers fancy Lille to get the job done at the Stade du Moustoir.

Compared to Lorient’s 30.3%, Lille boasts a 47.7% win probability, while there is a 28.6% chance of the two teams settling for a share of the spoils this weekend.

Lorient secured their first win since returning to the French top flight last Sunday when they steamrolled Stade Rennais 4-0 on home turf.

As for Lille, they showed their mettle against AS Monaco last time out as they secured a 1-0 victory when the two teams squared off at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

Lorient preview: Blistering home form

Lorient took full advantage of their numerical advantage in last weekend’s game against Stade Rennais as they cruised to an emphatic 4-0 victory when the teams met at the Stade du Moustoir.

Rennes failed to get into gear after going down to nine men inside the opening 11 minutes, with Sambou Soumano, Aiyegun Tosin, Pablo Pagis and Theo Le Bris hitting the target to fire Lorient to their first win since returning to Ligue 1.

Head coach Olivier Pantaloni will be delighted with his side’s resounding response to their opening-day defeat on August 17, when they narrowly fell 1-0 against Auxerre at the Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps.

With the result against Rennes, Lorient have now won each of their last six league games on their own patch and are eyeing a third successive home victory in the Ligue 1 since October 2022.

Predicted lineup: Kamara (GK), Mendy, Talbi, Silva, Katseris, Ebong, Karim, Abergel, Kouassi, Tosin & Soumano

Lille preview: Eyeing best league start since 2020

Like Saturday’s hosts, Lille got their first win of the new campaign on the board last Sunday when they edged out Monaco 1-0 at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

Veteran forward Olivier Giroud continued his sensational start to life in Les Dogues' colours as he struck in the 91st minute to hand the hosts all three points, although the 38-year-old failed to put the icing on the cake in the 98th minute when he failed to convert from the penalty spot.

Prior to that, Lille kicked off the 2025-26 Ligue 1 season with a somewhat disappointing 3-3 stalemate versus Stade Brestois on August 17, when they let their lead slip away twice at the Stade Francis-Le Ble.

Lille have picked up four points from the opening two games this term, meaning victory on Saturday will mark their best start to a Ligue 1 campaign since 2020 (seven points from the first three matches).

Predicted lineup: Ozer (GK), Meunier, Ngoy, Ribeiro, Perraud, Bouaddi, Andre, Fernandez-Pardo, Haraldsson, Correia & Giroud

Player to watch – Oliver Giroud

Giroud’s clutch finish in the first minute of stoppage time against Monaco meant that his 99th-minute penalty miss held no consequences as Lille saw out a 1-0 victory at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

The veteran marksman has now found the back of the net in his first two goals in Les Dogues colours, having opened the scoring in the 3-3 stalemate against Stade Brestois in the opening game of the season on August 17.

Following a relatively underwhelming stint in the MLS, Giroud has enjoyed a stellar start to life in his second stint in France, scoring five goals in his first five games for Lille, including three in three pre-season matches.

The first two league games have highlighted that the 38-year-old still has what it takes to lead the attack for Lille, and the former France international will be one to keep an eye on this weekend.
