Liverpool transfer news: Liverpool ‘ready to spend £90m’ to snap up two Monaco gem

Monaco are facing the prospect of losing their two most coveted assets this summer, with Liverpool reportedly ready to spend big to land both Maghnes Akliouche and Lamine Camara.

The principality club are set to miss out on European football next season following a deeply disappointing campaign in Ligue 1, where they currently sit seventh. Monaco are awaiting the outcome of Friday's French Cup final — a victory for Lens against Nice would send them into Conference League qualifying. That would represent a minor consolation after a difficult season, and the club will also need to determine the future of 38-year-old Belgian boss Sebastien Pocognoli, whose position is under threat. Any European involvement will inevitably have an impact on the transfer window — though perhaps not for all players.

Akliouche and Camara: a £90m Premier League double

Akliouche, 24, nearly left Monaco in last summer's window, with the club holding out for £60m (€70m) amid interest that included Paris Saint-Germain. This time, his departure looks increasingly inevitable. The winger has been called up for France's World Cup squad and will have the chance to shine on the biggest stage before making his expected move to the Premier League — or to PSG.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool intend to recruit both Akliouche and Camara, 22, in the summer window and are willing to spend a combined £90m for the duo — £51m (€60m) for the winger and £39m (€46m) for the midfielder.

Could Paris Saint-Germain hijack the deal for Akliouche?

Paris Saint-Germain, long-standing admirers of Akliouche, could yet enter the race should Liverpool's interest firm up. Liverpool will lose Mohamed Salah this summer, and the French winger is understood to be among the priorities for sporting director Luis Campos — though whether PSG are prepared to go to £51m remains to be seen. The situations around Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele could also influence the Parisian club's stance on this one.

As for Camara, Chelsea were reported in March by Caughtoffside to be interested, though the appointment of Xabi Alonso as manager could see that interest cool. Manchester United and Newcastle United were also named by TEAMtalk in March as clubs tracking both Monaco players.

The World Cup, in which both Akliouche and Camara will feature, could yet shift the picture considerably — unless Liverpool move quickly and decisively, attacking both deals before the tournament gets under way.
