Levante's quest to win back-to-back games for the first time this season fell short, as they were beaten 2-1 by Real Sociedad last weekend.
The past month has not been very pleasant for the Valencia-based outfit, as they have managed only one win in their last seven games (D3, L3).
Luis Castro's men are 14th in La Liga with a 2-4-4 win-draw-loss record in 10 league matches. Both wins have come at Ciudad de Valencia, where they have earned seven of their 10 points this term.
Roger Brugue picked up a muscle injury in last weekend's loss at Real Sociedad. He joins Enzo Bardeli (hamstring) and Adrian de la Fuente (illness) in the recovery room.
On the other hand, Atletico Madrid are coming off a 1-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna. Given Barcelona's defeat against Real Madrid last weekend, they are now only two points behind the league leaders, with an 8-1-1 win-draw-loss record.
Interestingly, Diego Simeone's troops have been the league's most in-form side in recent weeks, having won their last six top-flight fixtures. They have won seven and drawn one of their last eight matches across all competitions, keeping five clean sheets in the process.
The visitors will remain without Johnny Cardoso and Cristian Romero, as both players are recovering from muscle injuries.
Julian Alvarez scored in back-to-back games for the first time this season last weekend. The Argentine forward has tendered a public apology to the Atleti fans, who have been unhappy with him since his summer transfer outburst; he is expected to start once again this weekend as he looks to extend his scoring run.
Both teams share a 2-3-2 win-draw-loss record in the last H2Hs. However, Atletico Madrid are unbeaten in their last three meetings (W2, D1) and have not lost at this stadium since May 2016.
