Barcelona's pursuit of a historic La Liga record came to an end last weekend. Hansi Flick's men had matched Real Madrid’s legendary 1968/69 mark of nine successive wins to begin a campaign, but their bid to claim sole ownership of the all-time record fell short at the final hurdle against their fiercest rivals.
Having started their season with an impressive 11 consecutive victories across all competitions, the Catalan giants have now lost back-to-back games, including their 4-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.
With that in mind, Barcelona's lead at the top of the La Liga standings has been cut to two points. The loss to Real Madrid also ended their run of 23 consecutive home wins in the Spanish top flight.
Xavi Espart has been ruled out for several weeks after picking up an ankle injury in El Clasico. He joins Eric Garcia (thigh), Andreas Christensen (thigh), Dani Olmo (thigh), and Roony Bardghji (ACL) on the sidelines.
On a brighter note, Jules Kounde could return to fortify Flick's injury-hit defence. Much of the side that started El Clasico are expected to feature this weekend, with Anthony Gordon, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal leading the attack.
Deportivo Alaves needed a late goal to salvage a point in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Malaga.
The Basque side had an impressive start to their campaign, winning three and drawing one of their first four league matches, but they have gone winless in six games since then (D2, L4).
Due to their abysmal run of results, the visitors, who were second in the Spanish top flight after Matchday 4, have now dropped to seventh.
While the have had an impressive three wins from six home games so far, Quique Sanchez Flores' side are still hunting for their first away win of the season.
There are no new injury concerns for Alaves, although long-term absentees Mikel Rodriguez and Facundo Garces continue to recover from cruciate ligament injuries.
Alaves have suffered six defeats in the last six H2Hs and have not beaten Barcelona on the road since September 2016. However, the Basque side won the most recent clash between these teams in May.

Whispers Predicts: Barcelona 4-1 Alaves
Priced at 1/8 (1.13), Barcelona are clearly favoured by the bookmakers ahead of this clash.
The Blaugrana have won nine of their 10 league matches this season, and considering their dominance over Alaves in the past, we are confident that they will return to winning ways this weekend.
Both teams were on the scoresheet in eight of Barcelona's last nine matches and five of Alaves' last seven games, and this can be backed at 10/11 (1.91).
We also fancy over 4.5 total goals at 5/4 (2.25), as was the case in three of Barcelona's last four matches.
