Leeds Transfer News: Whites in three-way battle for 47-cap youngster

Leeds United are weighing up a permanent deal that would bring 47-cap USA star Yunus Musah to the Premier League, but are believed to face competition from Serie A giants and fellow Premier League outfits.

According to Football Italia, Musah looks certain to leave AC Milan this summer. The question is whether that exit is a permanent one or not. Lazio are exploring a loan and option agreement, but Milan are pushing for a straight sale after having loaned him out last season to Atalanta. Leeds and recently promoted Ipswich are both in contention for a permanent deal.

Who is Leeds transfer target Yunus Musah?

Musah is only a relative youngster, sitting at just 23 years old, but the central midfielder already has a vast experience across an array of different footballing environments. He spent the bulk of his academy years in England, specifically playing for Arsenal. Since then, he's made his breakthrough into the senior game, racking up over 200 appearances across La Liga, Serie A and a combination of the Champions League and Europa League.

He can also point to a tidy international career. After making appearances across a host of England youth squads, Musah opted for the USA, where he has already earned 47 caps, including at the 2022 World Cup. Despite that, Musah missed out on the 2026 squad and now has his heart set on establishing himself as a regular starter.

Will Leeds sign Musah?

Current reports suggest that Leeds and Ipswich have only felt Milan out for what a possible deal for Musah could look like, rather than putting any concrete offer on the table. With Lazio starting to crank the pressure up, with a loan and option offer, the Premier League duo might have to show their hand soon.

If, as expected, those offers come in the shape of a permanent transfer, any loan is likely to be rejected. From there, it could be a straight shootout between the two Premier League clubs. In terms of club potential, Leeds would seem the obvious pick, however, the player is said to be desperate for a starring role, after making just six starts last season.
