Lech Poznan returned to action after the extended international break with an away trip to Slask, where the Ekstraklasa champions recorded a convincing 4-1 victory over a side sitting second from bottom in the Polish top flight.
Goals from Filip Jagiello and Pablo Rodriguez, along with a brace from Patrik Walemark, helped secure another emphatic win following their 5-1 triumph shortly before the three-week break from domestic league football.
Niels Frederiksen's side have been in excellent league form, with seven wins, one draw and just one defeat leaving the Railwaymen second in the table, three points behind the leaders.
However, they will be keen to carry that domestic form into their European campaign after a disappointing start on the continental stage.
Lech qualified for the Europa League after progressing through three qualifying rounds, having seen their Champions League hopes ended by a penalty shootout defeat in August.
Their league-phase campaign began with a trip to Selhurst Park, where they suffered the competition's second-heaviest defeat so far, leaving them 35th in the 36-team standings.
Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, began their Europa League campaign with a 2-0 home victory over Celje, with an early own goal and a late second-half strike from Facundo Medina securing all three points.
That result extended Leverkusen's unbeaten run in all competitions to five matches, with Novell's men sitting fourth in the Bundesliga and having recovered from a shock defeat to Elversberg on the opening day.
Leverkusen closed out the opening block of league fixtures before the international break with a 2-0 victory over RB Leipzig, moving above their opponents in the table.
They returned to action at the weekend with a thrilling 4-3 away win over Mainz.
After racing into a 2-0 lead inside the opening nine minutes, Leverkusen saw Anthony Caci score twice to bring Mainz level before the interval.
The visitors regained control after the break, restoring their two-goal advantage through England international Jarrell Quansah and Moussa Diaby.
Mainz managed another late goal, but it proved little more than a consolation as Leverkusen secured a dramatic victory that left them three points behind Bundesliga leaders Freiburg.
