The fight to complete deals is just as intense as the battle on the field as transfer stories ramp up during this January window. Here, we take a closer look at some of the latest transfer news today.

One of the biggest stories of the day comes from Selhurst Park, with the club enduring a horrendous Friday following the confirmed departures of key people.

Elsewhere, Chelsea are looking to strengthen their defence ahead of a potential top-four push.

Crystal Palace fans have endured a Friday from hell after finding out they are losing their manager, their star centre-back, and their talisman, all in one swoop.

Marc Guehi’s future was already destined to be away from Selhurst Park, with the player expected to join Manchester City before the end of the January window.

According to Sky Sports, striker Jean-Philippe Mateta is also heading through the exit door as he looks to tackle a new challenge and boost his chances of making the French World Cup squad.

The 28-year-old wants Champions League football, which rules out a move to Saudi Arabia or Turkey. Instead, Mateta is expected to join either Juventus or a Premier League rival before deadline day.

According to the latest reports from Sky Sports, former England international Tammy Abraham is eyeing up a return to the Premier League, with Aston Villa considering a potential January move for the striker.

Abraham is currently out on loan with Besiktas from his parent club, AS Roma, scoring 13 goals in 25 games across all competitions this season.

Villa are looking to beef up their squad ahead of the second half of the season, and Abraham (who played for the Villans during the 2018-19 campaign) is reportedly on their shortlist of potential additions this January.

One issue that could hamper Abraham’s return to the Premier League is the fact that Besiktas want more time to find a replacement. How long that may take is a different matter entirely.

New Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has got a couple of weeks to recruit new signings, and one position which he is desperately looking to strengthen is at centre-back.

According to Sky Sports News, the Blues are only looking to splash money on a player who could immediately slide into the starting XI.

The Premier League side tried to bring Dean Huijsen to Stamford Bridge last summer, though they were ultimately beaten to the deal by Real Madrid.

Chelsea’s search for a defender continues, with the club pondering a deal for one of their other main targets – £43m Rennes star Jeremy Jacquet.
