After a stunning Euro 2024 and a blistering start to 2024/25, Barcelona’s teenage sensation has consolidated his place as one of Europe’s best players. But what is Lamine Yamal salary, and how does he rank among Europe’s other teens?
How well the 17-year-old is compensated is a very pertinent issue, given Barcelona’s well-publicised financial issues.
Lamine Yamal's salary: How much does he earn?
Yamal signed his current contract in October 2023, and is currently earning €32,115 per week, which works out to €128,460 per month and €1,670,000 per year.
However, this does not include bonuses, which, while not disclosed by Barcelona, are likely present in his contract to incentivise further rapid development.
The big news when Yamal signed almost a year ago, however, was the presence of a €1,000,000,000 release clause into his contract.
All La Liga players must have a release clause in their contracts, as per regulations, but the size of Yamal’s was a statement of the Blaugrana’s intent to cling onto their young star.
However, it is widely believed that Barcelona and Yamal’s agent, Jorge Mendes, are already preparing for a fresh round of contract negotiations. Yamal will almost certainly see a colossal bump to his wages, as recognition of his newfound stardom and importance to the present and future of Barcelona.
Lamine Yamal salary: How does he compare to other teen stars in Europe?
Earning over €32,000 per week would be a dream come true for many teenagers. Even among other teenage players registered in their clubs’ senior squads across Europe, Yamal’s salary is high.
According to publicly available data, the average salary for a teenager in Europe’s top five leagues is around €8,000 per week.
However, there is a strong argument to be made that Yamal deserves a serious pay rise when compared to other top European teens.
New Manchester United signing Leny Yoro is one example, with the 18-year-old defender earning a staggering €138,000 per week at Old Trafford.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, 18-year-old Archie Gray is earning almost €90,000 per week at Tottenham, and Yamal’s former Barcelona teammate Marc Guiu is taking home €60,000 per week at Chelsea.
Real Madrid are also paying Endrick, who will surely rival Yamal for the Balon d’Or in the years to come, €80,000 per week.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, PSG have the two best paid teenagers in the world right now. Les Parisiens have given teenage midfielders Warren Zaire-Emery and Joao Neves weekly salaries both exceeding €170,000 per week.
These comparisons all point to one thing: Yamal is on the way to a major pay rise, whether at Barcelona or elsewhere.
