Kosovo began their Nations League campaign with a 1-0 home victory over the Republic of Ireland, but their momentum was checked by a 3-1 defeat to Austria in Vienna.

Franco Foda's side then played a goalless draw with Israel, leaving them second in the group with four points and still within reach of the leaders.

The hosts will take encouragement from their home record and the fact that they have already shown they can compete against higher-ranked opposition.

However, they need to find more attacking consistency after failing to score against Israel, particularly with Austria having demonstrated their ability to punish defensive mistakes in the previous meeting.

Kosovo will hope Vedat Muriqi is available after he missed the draw with Israel because of a muscular problem, as the striker's potential absence would be significant, although Albion Rrahmani is an alternative in attack.

Austria have made a strong start under Ralf Rangnick, winning their first two matches against Israel and Kosovo by the same 3-1 scoreline.

They were then held to a 2-2 draw by the Republic of Ireland after recovering from a two-goal deficit, with Michael Gregoritsch scoring a late equaliser.

The visitors have the opportunity to consolidate their position at the top of Group B3 with another win, with their first meeting with Kosovo settled by goals from David Affengruber, Junior Adamu and Carney Chukwuemeka, while Edon Zhegrova scored Kosovo's consolation goal.

Austria are without Marcel Sabitzer, who is taking a break from international duty, while David Alaba was not selected for this squad.

Konrad Laimer and Gregoritsch have returned to action after injury concerns, and Kevin Danso is available again following suspension.

Whispers predicts: Kosovo 1-2 Austria

Austria have scored three goals in each of their first two Nations League victories and have already shown they can trouble Kosovo's defence, making an away win at 11/10 (2.10).

Kosovo have been competitive in the group, taking four points from three games, and should be encouraged by their opening-day win over Ireland, which is why we expect them to also find the net, making both teams to score at 33/50 (1.66).

A repeat of the result in Vienna is possible, but Kosovo may be more difficult to break down at home, which is why we are going for a 2-1 Austria win at 8/1 (9.00).
