🔥 Our Hot tip

Both teams to score

Both teams scored in three of Ecuador's last four outings.

Ivory Coast and Ecuador go head-to-head in the early hours of Monday morning at the Lincoln Financial Field in what could be a pivotal Group E fixture at the 2026 World Cup.

With Germany expected to top the group, the battle for second place will likely come down to the three-time AFCON winners and South American underdogs, La Tri.

Picking up three points in this game would put either team in the driving seat for the knockout phase, meaning the stakes will be high in Philadelphia.

When Ivory Coast lost to Greece in June 2014, few could have imagined it would be the Elephants' last World Cup match for more than a decade.

The three-time AFCON champions failed to qualify for Russia 2018 and missed out again in Qatar four years later, extending their absence from football's biggest stage.

Now, 12 years on from that heartbreak in Fortaleza, Emerse Fae's side return determined to finally make history at the tournament.

Ivory Coast have never progressed beyond the group stage, but the expanded 48-team format offers renewed hope of reaching the knockout rounds.

With Germany expected to top Group E, Sunday's meeting with Ecuador could prove decisive in the race for qualification.

The Elephants arrive in Philadelphia on a three-match winning streak, though they face an Ecuador side unbeaten since a 1-0 defeat to Brazil in September 2024.

That loss was Sebastian Beccacece's first game in charge, and La Tri have since put together a 19-match unbeaten run built on a defence that has kept 13 clean sheets.

However, Ecuador's cautious style has limited their attacking output, with only eight wins during that spell and an average of just one goal per game.

While their defensive resilience should serve them well in tournament football, La Tri may need to show greater cutting edge to turn draws into victories.

Ivory Coast are likely to look for inspiration out wide, with Amad Diallo, Yan Diomande, Nicolas Pepe and Simon Adingra providing plenty of pace and creativity.

Questions remain up front after Sebastien Haller's omission, while Evan Ndicka is expected to miss the opener with a thigh injury sustained in last month's Rome derby.

Ecuador have few injury concerns of their own, although captain Enner Valencia is a doubt, and the potential absence of their 49-goal record scorer would be a major blow.

With Gonzalo Plata the only other player in the squad with more than a handful of international goals, Ecuador rely heavily on Valencia despite boasting stars such as Moises Caicedo, Piero Hincapie, Willian Pacho and teenage prodigy Kendry Paez.

Whispers predicts: Ivory Coast 1-1 Ecuador

A game of this magnitude offers several betting opportunities, and we have three selections that are certainly worth consideration.

We start with the ‘both teams to score’ market, currently priced at around the 6/5 mark. Both nations are in great form and with a knockout spot potentially on the line, both will be determined to get on the scoresheet.

The under 3.5 goals market is another intriguing one, given both teams have defended well in recent outings. However, the 7/50 odds are not good enough for an outright bet – adding this to a bet builder is the better way to go.

To find great value, the correct score market should be on your radar. The game to end in a 1-1 draw is currently priced at 5/1, and it is a bet which has landed in two of Ecuador’s last four matches.
