Republic of Ireland to win

Ireland won the first leg between them, and Israel have struggled, managing just one goal in three group fixtures, so the Republic are the stronger of the two teams.

The Republic of Ireland and Israel meet for the second time in eight days when they contest their UEFA Nations League fixture at the TSC Arena in Backa Topola, Serbia, on Sunday.

The match will be played behind closed doors at a neutral venue, with both sides looking to improve their position in League B Group 3, as the Irish are third with four points after three matches, while the Israelis sit bottom with one point.

Ireland's Nations League campaign began with a 1-0 defeat away to Kosovo, but Heimir Hallgrimsson's side responded with a convincing 3-0 victory over Israel in Debrecen.

Troy Parrott was among the goals in that performance, continuing an impressive run for his country and giving Ireland their first points of the group.

The Republic then returned to Dublin to face Austria and looked set for another important result after taking a 2-0 lead.

However, Austria fought back to claim a 2-2 draw, leaving Ireland third in the table and level on points with Kosovo.

A win on Sunday would keep them in contention to finish second, although their remaining fixtures in November will also be significant.

Ireland will be without James Abankwah, who is suspended, while captain Nathan Collins and several other players were already unavailable.

Troy Parrott is expected to remain central to the attack after scoring his seventh goal in five competitive games last time out.

Israel have had a difficult return to League B after their relegation from the top tier in 2024, as Ran Ben Shimon's side lost 3-1 to Austria before the 3-0 defeat to Ireland, and their goalless draw with Kosovo on Thursday was their first point of the campaign.

Israel have a selection concern in goal after Daniel Peretz withdrew with a groin injury, while their attacking options include Tai Baribo and Dor Turgeman.

Whispers predicts: Republic of Ireland 2-0 Israel

Ireland's win in the reverse fixture was their most convincing performance of the group so far, while Israel have struggled in this campaign, making a home win at 21/20 (2.05) the best option.

Ireland's draw with Austria showed that they are not yet consistently controlling matches after taking the lead, but Israel's limited scoring return makes a repeat of the reverse fixture's clean sheet a reasonable possibility, which is why we predict a 2-0 Ireland victory, available at 9/1 (10.00).
