France vs Republic of Ireland Lineups and Last Match

France

France made much harder work of Greece last time out than anyone expected, especially as the visiting side ended the game with 10-men. The opening forty-five minutes ended goalless but Mbappe converted a 55th-minute spot-kick to hand the hosts the lead. Greek centre-back Mavropanos, now of West Ham, was shown a red card in the 69th-minute yet France failed to capitalise on their one-man advantage as the game finished 1-0. Kimpembe, Badiashile and Diaby are among the players missing from this French squad but there is still plenty of talent in there to get the job done against Ireland.

Predicted Lineup – Maignan (GK), T. Hernández, Upamecano, Konaté, Koundé, Tchouaméni, Camavinga, Griezmann, Coman, Mbappé & Kolo Muani

Ireland

As most expected, Ireland controlled the game at home to Gibraltar three months ago, running out 3-0 winners, despite the first half failing to produce a single goal. Ireland took the lead in the 52nd-minute through Johnston and shortly after that, Ferguson made it 2-0. Ireland's third and final goal arrived in stoppage-time when Idah scored his first international goal and McClean picked up his second assist of the match. O'Dowds, Coleman, Brady, Hourihane, Parrott, Obafemi, Johnston, Robinson and Hogan are either injured or have not been called up by Kenny this time around.

Predicted Lineup – Bazunu (GK), Egan, O'Shea, Collins, McClean, McGrath, Cullen, Smallbone, Knight, Ogbene & Ferguson

Player to Watch: Olivier Giroud

The France and AC Milan forward, Olivier Giroud, continues to impress for club and country despite his advancing age.

The 36-year-old is back in the France squad and has started the new Serie A season with 4-goals in his opening three appearances, so he clearly still has something to offer his country for whom he has scored 54 times in 124 games.

We're backing Giruod to impress for France once again against a tough Ireland defence and wouldn't be surprised to even see him start the game and either provide a goal or an assist during the 90-minutes. Having never relied on his pace, Giroud has a knack of getting himself into the right positions at the right time and there aren't many better in the air than the former Arsenal man.
