Ipswich transfer news: Blues ‘target’ 62-cap international midfielder

Ipswich Town are reportedly weighing up a move for Fulham and Serbia central midfielder Sasa Lukic, with the middle of the park said to be next on Gary O’Neil’s list of areas to improve.

Lukic, who boasts 62 caps for his country, has proven himself more than capable at the top level, racking up over 100 appearances for Fulham across a three-and-a-half year spell, with 92 of those coming in the Premier League.

Ipswich prioritise midfield additions

The centre of Ipswich’s midfield has been a problem area for a number of years, or at least it hasn’t seen huge investment where transfer fees are concerned. Last time in the Premier League, in 2024/25, the Tractor Boys opted for loan signings that didn’t work out as hoped.

Now, they have only two “proper first teamers” for what will be at least two roles in the engine room. With that in mind, it is understood bringing in a proven midfield player with Premier League experience is high on the club’s priority list.

According to Sky Sports, Ipswich believe Lukic ticks that box. At 29-years-old, Lukic won’t come with much resale value but he will add to the Ipswich squad in a big way, both on and off the pitch.

FW verdict: Fulham may be open to Lukic exit

With Ipswich keen to add Lukic to their squad, the big question is whether or not there is a deal to be done.

Although Fulham signed Lukic for an undisclosed fee, reports suggest it was in the region of £8.5m. They could likely recoup all of that money by selling him to Ipswich, which could appeal given he only has one year left on his current contract.

Admittedly, the Cottagers do have an option to extend that, which might add a touch more value to their asset but with Alvaro Arbeloa likely to have his own transfer targets, allowing Lukic to join Ipswich could be a palatable option at the rumoured £8-10m mark.

The clubs have been in dialogue already this summer too, with Ipswich having sealed a deal to sign Issa Diop.
