How much is Jeremy Doku worth? Here’s the possible Man City transfer fee

Having been somewhat quiet on the 2023 summer transfer market, the Citizens seem eager to boost the starting XI with a couple of more fresh faces. Sure, Manchester City made Croatian defender-in-chief Josko Gvardiol the most expensive defender in history after the massive €90m transfer deal taking the former RB Leipzig player to Etihad Stadium. However, the problems in the attack are quite noticeable.

Norwegian goalscoring magician Erling Haaland is playing above all expectations, but despite the starting 11 looking unbeatable, there aren’t that many attacking alternatives at coach Pep Guardiola’s disposal.

If Phil Foden or Jack Grealish gets injured, Manchester City’s attacking punch might take a serious dip. Coach Pep Guardiola doesn’t need us telling him he has underwater rocks to look out for. So, he already made the first steps in signing much-admired Jeremy Doku.

The Antwerp-born goalscorer made his first professional steps defending Belgian giants Anderlecht. During his three-year spell at the club, he made 34 official appearances scoring on five occasions, whilst supplying teammates with seven assists.

Not the most thrilling statistics to have as a winger, but they were enough to force Rennes to bring him to Roazhon Park on a four-year deal. Jeremy Doku proved to be a great signing, as he scored six goals in the 2022/23 Ligue 1 campaign.

According to transfermarkt, Jeremy Doku’s market value is at a whopping €28m right now. However, that’s hardly a figure that can frighten Manchester City and their financial might. With his sturdy display in Ligue 1 during the 2022/23 campaign, Doku’s worth tripled ever since he joined Rennes.

If Rennes decide to keep Jeremy Doku at Roazhon Park, his market value will likely see a slow but steady increase over the next couple of seasons. After all, he’s only 21 years old. However, it’d be nothing compared to what his market value would look like if he joins Premier League giants Manchester City. €28m for a player of his caliber are definitely less than what you might expect in today’s harsh financial reality in football.

Possible Manchester City transfer fee

The €28m price tag transfermarkt has on Jeremy Doku is significantly less than what the Citizens have prepared for Rennes. The irresistible deal includes an astonishing €50m for the 21-year-old’s services, who’ll most likely strut his stuff at Etihad Stadium on a five-year deal.

Manchester City are prepared to break the bank for this one, as previously Riyad Mahrez swapped City for Al-Ahli in July on a €30m deal. Furthermore, chief playmaker Kevin De Bruyne got injured in the opening Premier League game of the season. He’ll miss all the action until December. Some fresh blood is much-needed right now, as coach Pep Guardiola is known for always planning ahead.

Signing Jeremy Doku on a €50m deal might be considered insanity by some, but the 21-year-old striker has a bright future ahead of him. His market value could easily double or even triple if he buckles down and work hard to make a name for himself in the Premier League.

However, Rennes might try to exploit the interest their player is getting and possibly reject the €50m, as West Ham are looking to hijack the player underneath Manchester City. This might force coach Guardiola’s hand to sweeten the pot with an extra €5-10m.
