Rangers are in danger of Celtic getting away from them in the Scottish Premiership title race, and failure to beat Hearts on Wednesday could see the Bhoys open up a seven-point lead at the top of the league table.

Derek McInnes, who will return to Tynecastle for the first time on Wednesday, will know just how difficult this match is going to be, but his side's recent unbeaten run puts them in the best possible position to walk away with all three points.

Rangers haven't lost a match since being knocked out of Europe at the end of August, while they haven't lost a league game since their second match of the season.

McInnes will be the only former Hearts employee to return to Tynecastle on Wednesday, with Lawrence Shankland and Cameron Devlin both injured. The Rangers boss is also without Daisuke Yokota, Jose Cifuentes, Ross McCrorie and Youssef Chermiti.

As for the hosts, this match feels more important than usual due to the return of McInnes, who hasn't been forgiven by the vast majority of Hearts supporters.

The match is therefore expected to be played in hostile conditions, which should suit the hosts, who will surely be fired up to show their former manager what he is missing.

There are some recent battle scars that the Jammy's must overcome if they are to get anything from the match, though. Wouter Vrancken's side recently lost 7-1 to Celtic and followed that up with a 2-0 defeat in Europe. The hope is that a 2-0 win at Motherwell at the weekend has set things right.

Vrancken has his fair share of injury concerns coming into this one, with Blair Spittal, Christian Borchgrevink, Craig Halkett, Harry Milne, Oisin McEntee, Stuart Findlay, Ageu and Tom Renaud all unavailable.
