Fresh from the jubilation of qualifying for the Europa League final, Freiburg will return to Bundesliga action on Sunday, when they take on hosts Hamburger SV at Volksparkstadion.
Hamburger are 12th with 34 points – enough to guarantee survival – whereas seventh-placed Freiburg are in control of the race to qualify for the Conference League given their tally of 44 points is one more than eighth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt with two games to play.

Hamburger secured their safety last weekend when they beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 on May 2, with those three points moving them eight ahead of the 16th-placed relegation playoff spot.
The hosts should be delighted with the outcome of 2025-26 considering they had spent the prior seven seasons battling in the 2. Bundesliga, and they need four more points to equal the total they amassed the last time they achieved top-flight survival in 2016-17.
HSV will be looking to avenge the 2-1 loss they suffered in January against Freiburg, but recent history is not in their favour considering they been beaten in each of their past three meetings with the visitors.
There are some concerns about the fitness of centre-back Jordan Torunarigha, who was forced off the pitch late on against Eintracht Frankfurt, and perhaps Nicolas Capaldo, Warmed Omari and Luka Vuskovic will appear in central defence if he is unable to play.
Freiburg will have the opportunity on May 20 to win their first ever major trophy when they face Aston Villa in the Europa League final, with the club having beaten Braga 3-1 on Thursday to advance as 4-3 winners from their semi-final tie.
It would be understandable if fans were not as interested in the team's remaining two domestic fixtures, but securing seventh place would also guarantee qualification for Europe for a third consecutive season.
When the club last competed in the Bundesliga, they were held to a 1-1 stalemate with Wolfsburg on May 3, though they have now drawn one and won two of their past four games in the league.
Although midfielder Patrick Osterhage is dealing with a knee injury that is set to keep him out until the middle of the month, Maximilian Eggestein and Johan Manzambi are both ready to play in a double pivot.

Whispers predicts: Hamburger SV 1-1 Freiburg
The bookmakers see Freiburg as favourites at 6/4, but with the visitors having played in Europe, a draw feels like a more realistic result at 13/5.
If the hosts manage to find their way onto the scoresheet, they are unlikely to score more than once given their recent record in front of goal, so it makes sense to predict Hamburger SV to Score Under 1.5 Goals at 3/5.
Freiburg have managed to find the back of the net in five of their last six Bundesliga matches, meaning backing Both Teams to Score at 4/7 could be a value prediction.
A potentially more ambitious bet would be to predict Freiburg to Score Under 1.5 Goals at 7/10, as while they come into the weekend's game having netted three times, that was the first time in five matches that they scored more than once.
> Hamburger SV to Score Under 1.5 Goals at 3/5 | Likelihood: Probable
> Both Teams to Score at 4/7 | Likelihood: Probable
> Freiburg to Score Under 1.5 Goals at 7/10 | Likelihood: Possible
