Fresh from the jubilation of qualifying for the Europa League final, Freiburg will return to Bundesliga action on Sunday, when they take on hosts Hamburger SV at Volksparkstadion.
Hamburger are 12th with 34 points – enough to guarantee survival – whereas seventh-placed Freiburg are in control of the race to qualify for the Conference League given their tally of 44 points is one more than eighth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt with two games to play.

Hamburger secured their safety last weekend when they beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 on May 2, with those three points moving them eight ahead of the 16th-placed relegation playoff spot.
The hosts should be delighted with the outcome of 2025-26 considering they had spent the prior seven seasons battling in the 2. Bundesliga, and they need four more points to equal the total they amassed the last time they achieved top-flight survival in 2016-17.
