Republic of Ireland vs Greece prediction: Margins could be slim in Dublin
Key Stats
- Republic of Ireland failed to score in four of their last five international fixtures.
- Ireland lost both of their meetings with Greece last year, conceding twice on each occasion.
- Ireland failed to win six of their last eight matches on home soil.
- Ireland had four players booked in their 2-0 reverse to England at the weekend.
Correct score prediction: Republic of Ireland 0-2 Greece
The Republic of Ireland looked typically toothless in their 2-0 loss at home to England on Saturday and a similar result could be in the works against Greece. The Greeks beat Ireland twice in as many Euro 2024 qualification encounters between the sides last year and hit two goals in each triumph.
Pre-game odds and win probability: Ireland priced as underdogs
- HOME: 15/8 (2.88) – 34.8%
- DRAW: 21/10 (3.10) – 32.3%
- AWAY: 13/8 (2.63) – 38.1%

The Republic of Ireland’s first game under the management of Heimir Hallgrimsson didn’t go to plan on Saturday when they were outclassed by England (0-2). The Irish look desperately short on cutting edge and they hold little appeal to win at the 15/8 prices on offer.
Greece meanwhile, started their Nations League campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Finland. The Greeks can travel to Dublin with confidence after that success and they look the better option in the match result markets at 13/8. View more our free football tips on our dedicated predictions page.
Most recent H2Hs: Greece have been dominant
Ireland and Greece shared a qualification group for Euro 2024 and the Greeks won both skirmishes with the Boys in Green, netting four goals along the way and conceding only once.

Republic of Ireland preview: Ferguson and Knight could start
Heimir Hallgrimsson is unlikely to shift from the 3-4-3 formation he used against England, though there might be some changes to the personnel in his XI. Adam Idah, Sam Szmodics and William Smallbone are all in danger of dropping out having failed to impress against the Three Lions.
Predicted lineup: Kelleher (GK) – O'Brien, Collins, O'Shea, Doherty, Molumby, Knight, O'Dowda, Ogbene, Robinson, Ferguson

Greece preview: Visitors could be unchanged
Greece showed a clinical edge to beat Finland 3-0 at the weekend having racked up just nine attempts on goal. Joint Head-Coaches Ivan Jovanovic and Nikolaos Papadopoulos could name the same XI for Greece's test against Ireland in Dublin. Fotis Ioannidis, who notched a brace on Saturday, should lead the line again.
Predicted lineup: Vlachodimos (GK), Rota, Mavropanos, Koulierakis, Tsimikas, Mantalos, Bouchalakis, Chatzigiovanis, Bakasetas, Pelkas, Ioannidis

Player to watch – Chiedozie Ogbene
On an evening of very few positives for Ireland, Cork native Chiedozie Ogbene caught the eye on the right flank and the Ipswich Town winger is arguably Ireland’s most influential outfield player at present.
Ogbene is a major threat
Ogbene’s blend of pace and close control can make him a nightmare to defend against and the 27-year-old gave England a few nervous moments to think about in Dublin at the weekend. Ogbene will be eager to trouble the Greek defence in similar style on Tuesday.
