Spain Primera Liga - Olímpic Lluís Companys

There’s a Catalan derby and a top-of-the-table showdown in La Liga on Sunday night. Our Barcelona vs Girona prediction looks at whether the visitors can announce themselves as very serious title contenders by raiding the Estadi Olimpic to go seven points clear of their neighbours.

Barcelona vs Girona prediction – Betting tips & odds

Hot Tip – Barcelona and Both Teams to Score

  • Both teams have scored in five of Girona’s last six league matches.
  • Heading into matchday 16, no side has scored more than Girona (34 goals) in La Liga 2023/24.

Our Barcelona vs Girona betting tips suggest the visitors may fall just short here. They’ve dropped just seven points so far this season, but it's worth noting that their only game against “big three” opposition ended in defeat when Real Madrid visited Montilivi in September.

Barcelona vs Girona prediction – Other tips

Barcelona 2-1 Girona

  • Our Barcelona vs Girona prediction considers that five of the seven home victories for Xavi’s team have been by just one goal in La Liga this season.
  • Both teams have scored in all but one of Girona’s away games.

Joao Felix to score Anytime

  • Joao Felix has had a knack for scoring in big games this season and should be confident after netting the only goal to defeat his parent club, Atletico Madrid, last weekend.
  • Despite their fine campaign, Girona have the worst defensive record in the top four with just one away clean sheet.

Barcelona vs Girona team news

Barcelona

Given the importance of the game, the Barcelona vs Girona lineups should see both coaches name their strongest available XIs.

Gavi and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are the main absentees for the hosts, with Iñaki Peña set to start in goal again.

Iñigo Martinez is also out, while Pichichi favourite Lewandowski will lead the line despite some poor finishing last weekend.

Predicted Lineup: Peña (GK) Cancelo, Christensen, Araujo, Kounde, Gundogan, De Jong, Pedri, Felix, Lewandowski, Raphinha

Girona

The visitors have been hit by a fresh blow with Yangel Herrera picking up an injury that should see David Lopez operate as the holding midfielder here. Borja Garcia and Toni Villa are also out.

Predicted Lineup: Gazzaniga (GK), Miguel, Blind, Eric Garcia, Couto, Aleix Garcia, David Lopez, Ivan Martin, Savio, Dovbyk, Tsygankov

Confirmed lineups will appear here around 60 minutes before kickoff.

Player to watch – Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie de Jong was very impressive last weekend, combining well in a ball-playing midfield trio alongside Ilkay Gundogan and Pedri.

The Dutchman is only just getting back to full fitness but is one to watch here and he makes a real difference in terms of Barca’s ability to move the ball from back to front.
