Authenticity (4/5): Italian newspaper follows Milan's pursuit
AC Milan are set to step up their efforts to sign Santiago Gimenez, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and company prepare to hold talks with Feyenoord directors to find a consensus on the Mexican striker's fee. So far, the Dutch outfit have shown reluctance to part ways with their star man mid-season.
The story comes from publication La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sempre Milan), who are considered a top source for transfer stories related to Italian football.
Value (3/5): Milan not ready to meet Feyenoord's asking price
Feyenoord have already turned down Milan's bid worth £25million, having slapped a price tag of £33.5 million on the Mexican hitman.
The Rossoneri are now hoping to find an agreement for a fee in the region of £28 million, including bonuses. It's a reasonable fee for the striker, given that he is yet to be tested in Europe's top five leagues.
Suitability (3.5/5): Prolific striker
Gimenez has 15 goals across all competitions to his name this season. Last term, he amassed an incredible 26 goals. As such, if Sergio Conceicao could shape his attack to suit the striker's movement, he would be getting a prolific goalscorer, who loves to keep defenders on their toes in and around the penalty area.
Upgrade? (3.5/5): Morata replacement
Alvaro Morata is currently tasked with leading Milan's attacking line. The Spaniard has impressed with his link-up play, but with just six goals in all competitions, he has disappointed with his return. On current form, Gimenez would easily displace him.
Logic (4/5): Gimenez is determined to join Milan
It is understood that Milan tried to sign Gimenez last summer as well. As such, the player is worried that if Feyenoord turn down their approach again, Milan, who appear a perfect next step for him, may not return for a third time.
Accordingly, he is pushing to join Milan now. His representatives are expected to inform Feyenoord of his desire. Meanwhile, a loan deal for Joao Felix remains an option for the Serie A giants.
Whisper+ verdict: 18/25
Milan's willingness to submit an improved bid as well as the player's desire is likely to convince Feyenoord to give their nod to the transfer.
