Genoa to win

Genoa have won each of their last three meetings with Sassuolo.

Genoa will take on Sassuolo on Sunday, 12 April, as the Serie A season nears its conclusion.

Neither of these two teams have an awful lot to play for at this stage, although Genoa are at risk of being dragged into a relegation battle if they lose here and other results go against them.

Genoa have enjoyed a reasonable campaign, and to avoid any unnecessary drama from here on out, they just need to keep performing well at home, something they have been doing for most of the season.

They have avoided defeat in more than half of their matches at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, and have lost just twice here since the turn of the year, and one of those was to the champions, Napoli.

In their two full seasons back in the top flight following their most recent promotion in 2023, Genoa have finished 11th and 13th. From here, they still have an opportunity to finish higher than both of those positions, which is likely the aim for manager Daniele De Rossi.

For the clash with Sassuolo, De Rossi is without Jean Onana, Brooke Norton-Cuffy and West Ham United-loanee Maxwell Cornet.

As for Sassuolo, their supporters will be delighted with how their first season back in Serie A has gone so far. With just seven games to go, I Neroverdi find themselves sat nicely in tenth position, and a top-eight finish is still within their reach.

After winning Serie B by six points last season, the target this year would have been just to retain their position in the top flight, and although their form has tailed off over the last couple of months, manager Fabio Grosso will be pleased with how the side has performed upon their return.

Last weekend, Sassuolo came from behind to overcome Cagliari, but they have only won twice away from home since early November, which puts them immediately on the back foot ahead of the trip to Genoa.

Grosso is far from at full strength for this clash, either. Filippo Romagna is the latest man to go down, joining Eduoardo Pieragnolo, Fali Cande and Daniel Boloca in the treatment room.
