Match Result - Draw

Heidenheim have drawn two of their last three matches in the Bundesliga.

Fresh from booking their spot in a European semi-final, Freiburg return to Bundesliga duties this Sunday afternoon when they welcome Heidenheim to the Europa-Park Stadion.

The hosts are on cloud nine after thumping Celta Vigo 6-1 on aggregate to reach the Europa League semi-final.

FCH, on the other hand, have given themselves a late shot at Bundesliga survival following a good run of form. But is it too little too late?

Freiburg have already made history by reaching their first ever major European semi-final, but the club will now be looking to go one step further as they prepare for a crunch Europa League semi-final tie with Braga.

Before the Breisgau Brazilians can think about their continental exploits, Julian Schuster’s men face a potentially tough league encounter with relegation-favourites Heidenheim.

Freiburg enter Sunday’s match full of confidence, not only thanks to their continental exploits, but also because of their five wins in six games.

If Freiburg’s previous home games are in any way an indicator, we should expect a thrilling encounter at the Europa-Park Stadion.

In the last few weeks alone, the hosts have played out a 3-3 draw with Bayer Leverkusen, thumped Genk 5-1, lost to Bayern Munich 3-2, and beat Celta Vigo 3-0.

When it comes to injuries, Freiburg will be without centre-back Max Rosenfelder, long-term absentee Daniel-Kofi Kyereh and Patrick Osterhage.

Heidenheim are also dealing with a number of injuries as we enter the business end of the season.

Defender Benedikt Gimber missed training this week, while Leart Paqarada continues to be on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Away from the injury news, the last few weeks have been great for Heidenheim, who have closed the gap in the relegation fight.

FCH have been rooted to the bottom of the table for a number of months, but their three-match unbeaten run has moved them to within seven points of the relegation playoff spot.

Frank Schmidt’s side have five games remaining to potentially pull off one of the greatest survival efforts in Bundesliga history, though stats are not on their side.

No club has ever swerved relegation in the Bundesliga after posting 19 points in 29 league games. On top of that, Heidenheim are the only club in the five major European leagues that is yet to produce a clean sheet this season.

While the relegation-strugglers might lack quality, the one thing that Heidenheim cannot be questioned on is effort.

Before their 3-1 win over Union Berlin last weekend, FCH held Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen to high-scoring draws. They also pushed Stuttgart in a 3-3 thriller a few weeks earlier.

In terms of the result, we like the look of the draw. Freiburg have picked up mixed results in front of their home fans, and Heidenheim will not be afraid given their past performances.

The draw is available at 3/1 with most bookmakers, but if you are looking for more value, you should consider the correct score market.

A 2-2 draw is available at around the 13/1 market with many bookies.
