HT Benfica to win

Estoril Praia trailed at HT in the last four H2Hs.

Estoril Praia will hope to put an end to their winless streak when they host Benfica in the final round of the Primeira Liga season at Estadio Antonio Coimbra da Mota on Saturday.

Although the hosts are without a win in seven consecutive matches, they will hope to ruin Benfica’s invincible campaign.

Estoril Praia played out a 1-1 draw at Alverca on Sunday, extending their winless streak to seven games. Ian Cathro’s men are currently ninth in the Portuguese top flight and have nothing left to play for.

The hosts finished in eighth place last season with 46 points. Whatever happens in this encounter, they are set to end the campaign with fewer points than they obtained at this stage last term, while a win over Benfica will definitely keep them in the top ten.

Estoril will host Benfica this weekend with no new injury concerns. However, defender Antef Tsoungui remains sidelined due to a cruciate ligament injury sustained last September.

On the other hand, Benfica extended their unbeaten run across all competitions to 10 games with a 2-2 draw against Braga in their last outing.

Jose Mourinho's troops are now two points behind second-placed Sporting Lisbon and will need a victory for a chance to secure a UEFA Champions League qualification berth.

Benfica will be tagged ‘invincibles' in the Portuguese Primeira if they avoid defeat against Estoril Praia on Saturday. Surprisingly, this will not be the first time they have gone a league season unbeaten and ended up not winning the title.

In the 1977/78 season, Porto managed two fewer draws and pipped them to the title on goal difference. This time, though, Porto registered four draws but won 27 matches, in contrast to Benfica’s 11 draws and 22 matches won.

That said, Mourinho's side could join Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade (2007/08) and Moldovan outfit FC Sheriff (2024/25) as the only European clubs this century to go unbeaten in the league and still miss out on the title.

Only Joao Veloso is unavailable for the visitors. The young midfielder has been nursing a shoulder injury since February and will need a few more weeks to fully recover.

Whispers Predicts: Estoril 1-3 Benfica

At 1.34, Benfica are considered favourites by the bookmakers. The visitors have an excellent track record against Estoril, having won nine of the last 10 H2Hs, including each of the last four.

Considering Estoril's winless streak, this should be business as usual for Benfica.

Moreover, both teams were on the scoresheet in five of Estoril's last seven games, five of Benfica's last six matches, and in four of the last five H2Hs.

On that note, Benfica & BTTS – Yes at 2.45 could be worth a punt.
