Borges’s men take on a foundering Estoril side, who have struggled to impose themselves in the new campaign and we are tipping them to extend their five-game winning streak in this fixture.

Seeking to climb into top spot in the Portuguese Primeira Liga standings, Sporting Lisbon journey to the Estadio Antonio Coimbra da Mota to face Estoril Praia on Saturday. Ian Cathro’s men have lost each of their last eight matches against the visitors since October 2018 and will head into the weekend looking to end this poor seven-year streak.

FootballWhispers’ Estoril Praia vs Sporting Lisbon prediction takes a look at the chances of both sides securing all three points at this weekend.

Estoril Praia vs Sporting Lisbon prediction: Sporting Lisbon to keep the ball rolling

Key stats

  • Sporting Lisbon have led at half time in six of their most recent seven games against Estoril Praia while netting the opening goal in their last nine clashes since October 2018.
  • Estoril have failed to win seven of their last eight Primeira Liga home games, losing four and picking up two draws since the start of March.
  • While Sporting have managed just one clean sheet in their most recent five games, there have been at least three goals in each of their last six outings.
  • Rui Borges’s men are on a run of 14 straight competitive away matches without defeat, picking up 10 wins and four draws since January's 2-1 defeat against Leipzig in the Champions League.

Correct score prediction: Estoril Praia 1-3 Sporting Lisbon

Sporting Lisbon have flown out of the blocks this season, winning six of their seven matches since July’s Super Cup loss against Benfica, and they will head into the weekend with sky-high confidence.

Borges’s men take on a foundering Estoril side, who have struggled to impose themselves in the new campaign and we are tipping them to extend their hot streak in this fixture.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Sporting Lisbon firm favourites by the bookies

  • HOME: 8/1 (9.00) – 11.1%
  • DRAW: 9/2 (5.50) – 18.2%

With a 76.9% win probability, the bookmakers have Sporting as clear favourites to come out on top at the Estadio Antonio Coimbra da Mota this weekend.

While Estoril will be looking to snap their eight-game losing streak in this fixture, they have been given just an 11.1% chance of doing that, while there is an 18.2% possibility of the game ending in a stalemate.

Estoril Praia were handed their second away defeat of the league campaign last time out while Sporting Lisbon made light work of Moreirense on home turf and will be looking to keep the juggernaut rolling.

Estoril Praia preview: A difficult start to the campaign

Estoril were sent crashing back to earth in the Primeira Liga last Sunday when they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Gil Vicente at the Estadio Cidade de Barcelos.

Summer signing Pablo Felipe continued his hot scoring streak as he broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 15th minute before substitute Joelson Fernandes put the result beyond reach in the 85th minute.

Prior to that, Cathro’s side secured their first win of the campaign on September 13, when they edged out AVS 3-1 at the Estadio Antonio Coimbra da Mota, a result which saw their nine-game winless run (6L, 3D) in all competitions come to an end.

Having secured an eighth-placed finish in the league last term, it has been a difficult start to the new campaign for Estoril, who have managed five points from the first 18 available to sit 12th in the table.

Sporting Lisbon preview: Leoes flying high in the new campaign

Sporting Lisbon turned in another dominant team display on Monday when they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Moreirense at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Following a goalless first half, the home side upped the ante after the break as Luis Javier Suarez, Pedro Goncalves andsubstitute Fotis Ioannidis all found the back of the net to cap off a dominant second-half display.

With that result, Sporting have won six of their seven matches across all competitions this season, including a 4-1 victory over Kairat Almaty in their Champions League curtain-raiser on September 18.

Borges’s side’s only defeats this season came on August 30, when they were beaten 2-1 by rivals Porto on home turf courtesy of goals from Luuk de Jong and Williams Gomes.

The Leoes have picked up 15 points from the first 18 available to sit second in the Primeira Liga standings, three points behind first-placed Porto, who are the only side with a 100% record this season.

Pedro Goncalves has been instrumental in Sporting Lisbon’s solid start to the campaign and the Portuguese international will be one to keep an eye on this weekend.

With his strike against Moreirense, Goncalves now boasts eight goal contributions in eight games for club and country this season, netting five goals and setting up three more.

The 27-year-old retain his role in the front three this weekend, teaming up with Geovany Quenda and summer signing Suarez, who has netted four goals in six league games since his big-money summer switch from Almeria.
