The hosts will target another strong start, having been one of the league's best teams in the first half of their previous campaign.

Espanyol's previous campaign featured two contrasting halves. They won 10 of their first 17 league matches and were in contention for an automatic UEFA Champions League spot at the end of last year.
However, 2026 did not begin on a pleasant note for the hosts, as they failed to win 18 consecutive league games and were fighting for their survival with only three games remaining.
On the positive side, coach Manolo Gonzalez turned his team's fortunes around, winning two of their remaining three fixtures and securing a mid-table finish. Despite their struggles this year, the Barcelona-based outfit have kept faith in their manager, bringing him on for his third full season.
Espanyol will be without long-term absentees Javi Puado and Kike Garcia due to injury. Although the hosts have been quiet in the transfer market this summer, they have held on to most of their best players from last season, with the exception of Carlos Romero, who had six goals and three assists in 36 La Liga assignments.
Like their opponents, Levante's fortunes improved toward the end of the season, as they were 19th in La Liga for most of the second half of the campaign but were able to ensure their safety after winning three of their final four games.
Interestingly, the Valencia-based side earned as many points as 18th-placed Mallorca, who were relegated at the end of the campaign.
It is worth mentioning that Levante will have to do without last season's top scorer Carlos Espi, as the 21-year-old forward, who scored 10 goals in their last 13 league outings, joined Real Madrid for €25 million this summer. The visitors have also lost Pablo Martinez, who was tied for most assists at the club during the previous campaign.
Although the visitors have a clean bill of health, Roger Brugue is serving the second of his two-game suspension due to a straight red.

Whispers Predicts: Espanyol 2-2 Levante
At 23/20 (2.15), Espanyol are considered favourites by the bookmakers. In addition to being on a four-match winless streak, the hosts have had a poor track record in Round 1 games, having won only one of their last eight La Liga openers.
Keeping in mind that the last two encounters between these sides ended in stalemates, we believe the spoils will be shared after 90 minutes.
There were at least three goals in five of Espanyol's last six games and in five of Levante's last seven fixtures, so we fancy over 2.5 total goals at 6/5 (2.20).
Furthermore, draw & BTTS – Yes landed in two of the last three H2Hs in La Liga, and this combination is priced at 7/2 (4.50).
> Over 2.5 total goals at 6/5 (2.20) | Likelihood: Probable
> BTTS – Yes at 19/20 (1.95) | Likelihood: Probable
> Match result: Draw at 12/5 (3.40) | Likelihood: Possible
> Draw & BTTS – Yes at 7/2 (4.50) | Likelihood: Possible
> Correct Score: 2-2 at 15/1 (16.00) | Likelihood: Outsider
