Elche needed a late goal to salvage a point against Deportivo La Coruna in their La Liga opener on Monday.
Stretching back to their previous campaign and including their pre-season fixtures, the hosts are now unbeaten in their last eight matches, although five of those ended in stalemates.
However, extending this run is easier said than done, as the Valencia-based side have lost 13 consecutive clashes between these sides and have not won any of their last 26 H2Hs.
In fact, you'd have to go all the way back to December 1974 just to find the last time Elche won an encounter between these sides.
Head coach Martin Anselmi has a couple of injury concerns ahead of this fixture, with Grady Diangana and Yago Santiago both sidelined with knee injuries.
Fernando Nino made his debut for Elche in last week's 1-1 draw at Deportivo La Coruna and is fancied to start up front once again, while Max Aguado, who scored the team's first goal of the campaign, will likely retain his spot in midfield.
On the other hand, Barcelona are coming off a title-winning campaign which was built on the back of a perfect home record.
Hansi Flick's troops were by far the most dominant side in the Spanish top flight over the course of the season, claiming the title with three games left to spare.
The visitors will be without Frenkie de Jong and Roony Bardghji, as both players are sidelined with meniscus and cruciate ligament injuries, respectively.
Additionally, the Catalan giants have been busy registering their summer signings – including Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, and Rodri – ahead of Sunday's clash, as they work to have all first-team options available for selection.
Barcelona also have a great track record in La Liga openers, having won 15 of their last 20 opening-day fixtures.

Whispers Predicts: Elche 1-3 Barcelona
At 7/20 (1.35), Barcelona are considered favourites by the bookmakers.
Considering their dominance in this fixture, anything other than a comfortable victory for the Catalan side would be surprising.
It is worth mentioning that five of Elche's last six matches, six of Barcelona's last eight games, and four of the last six H2Hs produced goals at both ends, and this can be backed at 3/4 (1.75).
We also fancy a
1-3 correct score at 9/1 (10.00). The visitors won the last two clashes between these sides by the same scoreline.
