Authenticity (3/5): Italian sources name clubs involved
Paris Saint-Germain have joined the race to sign Atalanta's centre-midfielder Ederson but continue to face competition from Man City and Juventus for the player under contract until 2027.
This news comes from calciomercato.com, an Italian site which specialises in transfer news, but information on their origin of their source is lacking.
Value (3/5): Atalanta name their price
Since City's interest last week, it has been reported that La Dea have put a €60 million price tag on the head of the 25-year-old who has played twice for Brazil since winning the UEFA Europa League last season.
That will come across as a reasonable price for the Parisians, as his value would have increased since Transfermarkt rated him at €40 million in May. Atalanta wanted to wait until the summer to sell, but now it seems they are ready for a January sale.
Suitability (4.5/5): Can be the driving force for top sides
Ederson is the archetypal midfield engine, running all day, breaking up the play and launching attacks for his side, while also able to make goal contributions.
He was a revelation for Salernitana, who brought him from Brazil, and he can have a similar impact at the heart of PSG's 4-3-3 formation.
Upgrade? (3/5): PSG have midfield talent
Ederson is certainly not a veteran, but he would add lots of experience to Luis Enrique's midfield, where teenagers Warren Zaire-Emery and Senny Mayulu are starting while still developing.
The central role is currently occupied by Fabian Ruiz, who may have the spot nailed down, so Ederson may be forced to play on the left or right of the three.
Logic (2.5/5): Other options might take his fancy
With Rodri a long-term absentee, Ederson might be afforded more time in his favoured position at City, where he also stands a better chance of winning the Champions League. If he prefers to stay in Italy, then moving down the road from Bergamo to Turin to play for Juve will appeal.
Whisper+ verdict: 16/25
Ederson looks every bit the gritty, determined yet skilful player that PSG have been lacking, especially in Europe, in recent years, plus he has experience that few of the PSG squad can rival.
As usual, the Parisians look on the verge of a crisis, and it would be a surprise if Ederson made France his destination of choice.
