Crystal Palace vs Lyon Lineups and Last Match
Crystal Palace
Led by the never-ageing Roy Hodgson Crystal Palace enter yet another season where their only goal will be to avoid relegation. The Eagles had a decent pre-season despite only being able to beat lower league Watford in 4 friendlies played.
The most recent test was in Detroit and Palace did pretty well to deserve a 1-1 draw vs Sevilla.
Hodgson is likely to be without some important players for this final test. Defenders Mitchell and Hughes picked up injuries during the American tour. Both will be missed bitterly as they were expected to be regular starters. Olise is also sidelined but he doesn't play much anyway.
Predicted Lineup – Johnstone (GK), Ward, Andersen, Guehi, Clyne, Schlupp, Doucoure, Lerma, Eze, Edouard & Ayew
Lyon
After an extremely difficult last season Lyon underwent a major clearout in the summer months. Coach Blanc released 6 players that were often involved last season. He's added some good pieces though and also the 19-year-old Cherki is tipped to play a main role this season.
Lyon have struggled this summer and they are yet to keep a clean sheet in the pre-season. They recently lost 3 consecutive matches with the same 0-1 scoreline but on Wednesday night a much better display saw them trashing Sion from Switzerland 8-2.
Lyon don't seem to have any injury issues right now. Also, the latest acquisition Caleta-Car (on loan from Southampton) could make his debut only 2 days after making his move.
Predicted Lineup – Lopes (GK), Mata, Kumbedi, Diomande, Tagliafico, Lepenant, Tolisso, Caqueret, Cherki, Lacazette & Barcola
Starting Lineups
*Lineups are usually announced 1hr before kick-off
Player to Watch: Eberechi Eze
Crystal Palace's dangerous wide midfielder Eze is expected to have a breakthrough year. He already sort of did that last season with his 10 goals and 6 assists in the Premier League. Eze also scored in 2 of the summer friendlies already.
Now with Wilfried Zaha gone Eze will see even more of the ball and he is seen as Palace's future. Backing Eze to shine in Crystal Palace's only proper home match before the start of the new season is a wise thing to do.
